For everyone who doesn't drive while talking or texting on the phone, smoke, drink,
drive without a seatbelt on, or all the other vices people are people are called assholes for doing here: Guess what? You will still die.

1. Yep, that is true
but hopefully people who drive carefully won't be responsible for the deaths of others. But having been responsible for two accidents in my life, neither of which were caused by the infractions listed above, I will say that sometimes accidents just happen.

5. (shrug) No need to bring it about sooner than necessary. Still less need...
Edited on Sun Jul-26-09 09:08 PM by BlooInBloo
to bring it about early for someone else.

EDIT: That said, I need to run out n get another pack of smokes.

6. Yeah, but you have a lesser chance of taking other people out with you.
I'm basically on your side. This "You can't do THAT in a car" thing is getting out of hand...

...but I personally draw the line based on the likelihood of killing other people.

I don't have a problem with smoking or eating or drinking or talking on a cellphone...and both helmet and seat belt laws are just nanny-state stupidity....but I think that texting while driving (while I do occasionally do it) might be a reasonable thing to ban.

10. No shit, Sherlock.
I drive for a living and, oh boy, the crazy things I see.

I figure if you want to drive like an idiot, go offroad and knock yerself out.

But please, please, please don't do it on the public highways and take a bunch of innocent folks to the graveyard with you.

14. Let's bring back the good old driving distractions,
the screaming kids in the back seat, spilling the hot coffee, looking for that cd that dropped on the floor, looking for change for the toll, good old rubber-necking at accidents and hot chicks (for me the hot chicks seem to be decades older than they used to be). Yes, Virginia, there were driving distractions before cell phones.

17. Quite true. However...
If you are yapping or texting away while driving, you are just as likely to kill yourself or someone else as a drunk driver.

When I see someone doing it, I consider them no different than a drunk driver. Selfish and irresponsible behavior, except that they don't even have the excuse of impaired judgement.
