US Marshal Shoots San Joaquin K-9 Officer
Dog Bit Marshal While Serving Warrant In Lathrop

LATHROP, Calif. -- A U.S. marshal shot and killed a San Joaquin County K-9 officer while serving an arrest warrant Thursday in Lathrop.

A multi-agency task force was serving the fugitive warrant on the 1200 block of East Louise Avenue at about 3 p.m.

San Joaquin County officials said that for some reason, Dutch shepherd Niko bit the marshal, who shot the dog. It died about 90 minutes later at a local veterinarian's office.

There's no indication why Niko bit the marshal, and it's handler was very upset.
