Video of a White Motorist Screaming At A Cop While Getting a Ticket, Is He Arrested?
Below is a link to a video of a police officer giving a speeding ticket to a White motorist. Notice the motorist's tone of voice. Notice how he swears at the cop. Notice how he litters and even destroys the ticket.

But does he get arrested? Hmmm. Let's watch and see:

2. The cop knows he is being filmed, therefore his behavior will be different.

8. LOL. No, some cops have the temperament to be cops and don't fly off the handle
Some cops actually don't have such tender egos that they have to pull power trips to get through the day. They are 'big enough' to deal with people venting without over reacting.

There is plenty of video of cops who knew the cameras were on and fucked up anyway.

It's not the camera. It's the fact that there are good cops and bad cops. Departments would do well to weed out the latter.

7. But, but, WAIT.......he didn't show the cop RESPECT!
He cursed at the cop! Called him names! Oh My God!

But why wasn't he arrested?

Remember: you will not have the right to free speech unless you exercise it.

We do not have to respect cops. They should respect US.

16. True, one has a right to free speech, but the message of the speech is
likely to be ignored if it is stated with a disrespectful attitude. In addition, its hard to exercise your free speech if you are on the ground and bleeding out from a sucking chest wound.

10. That police officer should be teaching lessons in dealing with citizens.
He didn't let the outburst compel him to silly overreaction. Many police officers would have escalated the situation, and some would have injured the driver for that, maybe even killed him in excess.

12. Different police officer and "offender". Can't compare the two together.
Only way you can compare is having the same control: i.e. either the same police office, or the same "suspect" (for want of a better word).

In the above video (I can't see it at work, since I'm here but this video has been on TV so many times anyway) had this been a different police officer, that officer may well decide to bring that motorist in. Yet another officer may well have let that motorist go and not pulled them over in the first place. I believe the officer in that video was just amused at that guy screaming and ranting like that, and he was most likely chuckling on the inside. Especially when after destroying and littering the ticket the officer calmly states to the motorist that if he didn't pick it up he'd cite him for littering.

I used "offender" in quotes specifically - in the above video we can't determine for sure that the motorist was indeed speeding - all we have is the police officers' words on video for that (we have no access to the radar gun records). I also know Yavin4 you're trying to compare this incident with the false arrest of the Harvard professor in his own home - but it just doesn't pan out, period. Without getting the exact article up, President Obama has said that the police in the Harvard professor's incident acted stupidly, and I would concur with this: the police officer made the wrong decision, handled it wrong from the beginning, and definitely should not have arrested the professor. Again, I used the word "offender" in quotes because in the professors incident he certainly was not an offender. In fact there may be a constitutional angle here: 1st amendment rights (free speech)... but then I am not a lawyer, let alone a constitutional one.

15. +1. There is a double standard, but individual data points don't demonstrate a given trend.

13. Thank you. But you have to realize these examples of white privilege aren't appreciated here.
And this is also an example of a police officer doing a great job the way it's intended to be done.

17. Gosh, that cop was cool as a cucumber.

That motorist was a real asshole. I feel sorry for his wife and kids, if he has any, having to live with a m-f like him.
