7-11Petition: Customers Please ask Congress to end unfair credit card charges on businesses ..!!
Had to go to 7-11 today --

On the counter they had a petititon they were asking customers to sign to

get Congress to intervene re credit card charges on businesses --

Now . . . why didn't we all think of that?

We're not organized, folks!!!

Where are our petitions?

1. Are they trying to get the customers to pay the charge?
As I recall, when a savvy bank-card user swipes his card through as a credit transaction rather than giving up a PIN, the seller is responsible for the charges, rather than the buyer. Many places try to hide the option behind the "cancel" button or in other ways.

Is that what they want Congress to fix?

2. They want Congress to lower the charges . . .
As I understand it when you use your check cashing card which is probably what

happens at 7-11 -- it's 3.5% on the seller --

In fact, it's 3.5% on the total, right?

Which is what gas stations owners were going nuts about when the gas prices kept

going up!

We're all crazy to be using these cards -- there are no charges to me for my cards

- it comes out of my checking, just the amount.

And, fortunately, my visa bill is paid in full every month -- no charges.

HOWEVER, twice now -- once just a few days ago -- I've had fraudulent charges discovered

by the bank to my check cashing card. They simply give you a new card. However,

someone is absorbing these fraudulent charges because I doubt they're all recovered.

The woman who helped me told me only to use a credit card at a gas station or anywhere

that you aren't keeping control of the card yourself.

Also -- a lot of places won't take American Express because I think they charge 7.5% on

the seller -- right?

MEANWHILE . . . all of these costs are being fed back into the economy in pricing of goods.

And, we're all nuts to be making credit card corporations richer and more powerful --
