34. Truth has a decidedly "liberal" bias.

It is kinda amazing how wrong the reactionary positions are.

Built on a foundation of lies, promulgated to deceive.

Fear allows the suspension of disbelief.

Like the fear of a hell for the superstitious.

The fear of "socialism" for the ignorant.

What? Me worry!

Be happy...

10. He was just as agressive in telling the truth about dems as he against reps
Remember in '68 he did a commentary from Vietnam and LBJ said, "If we lost Cronkite--we've lost the country." When Dan Rather was being roughed up at the Dem convention of '68 he called Daley's police a bunch of goons. Then he agressively followed Watergate. No he was a reporter, not a partisan.

16. In the truest sense of the word a liberal should ask pointed questions
some of which may make people in power very uncomfortable. That goes for government as well as private industry. Conservatives question? Only if it involves a Dem not keeping his zipper zipped.

47. It's because the very definition of conservatism...
...is antithetical to the profession of journalism. Without a drive to question authority, power structures and the status quo, journalism doesn't occur. What suffices for "conservative journalism" is merely working toward presupposition aimed only at discrediting those of particular political or social camps.

23. Obviously FOX doesn't get it. Cronkite was the most trusted man in the nation
for over 20 years--trusted by both sides. Back in 1951, Eisenhower was courted by the Democrats as well as the Republicans because he was that widely respected. Cronkite could have either party's nomination for a couple of elections, had he desired it.

31. Here it is:
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,533660,00.html

More recently, in a syndicated column, Cronkite defended the liberal record of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry and criticized the Iraq war and other Bush administration policies.

"Liberal" also appears earlier in the article here:

A former wire service reporter and war correspondent, he valued accuracy, objectivity and understated compassion. He expressed liberal views in more recent writings but said he had always aimed to be fair and professional in his judgments on the air.

You can read a whole lot into that single word, "but".

35. Shallow, as usual.
In Walter's days at CBS the country was not nearly as politically polarized as it is now, at least on the surface. There was a Fairness Doctrine and only 3 networks which I think served to keep news reporting truly fair and balanced and keep a lot of political extremism and propaganda off the airwaves.

Back then Walter probably spelled "liberal" with a small "L" and probably thought of it more as "open-minded" or "open-eyed, accepting things as they are" as opposed to the closed-minded, biased (bigoted) mindset that conservatives were known for in those days.

He wasn't neutral, he was OBJECTIVE00and that, to FUX, has got to be biased.
