Sorry to be a downer but NJ Governors race doesn't look good for Corzine (at this time)
Republican challenger Christopher Christie is pulling away from Democratic incumbent Gov. Jon Corzine and now holds a 53 - 41 percent lead among likely voters in the New Jersey Governor's race, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.

This compares to a 50 - 40 percent lead for the former federal prosecutor in a June 10 survey by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University.

In a three-way matchup among likely voters, Christie leads Gov. Corzine 47 - 38 percent, with 8 percent for independent candidate Christopher Daggett.

Christie is one step ahead in the Boardwalk Poll as likely voters say 40 - 38 percent that they would rather stroll the Atlantic City Boardwalk with him. Men prefer strolling with Christie 44 - 35 percent, while women prefer Corzine 40 - 38 percent.

On the other hand President Obama remains popular in NJ:

"Good news for Gov. Jon Corzine: President Barack Obama is coming in and Obama's job numbers among New Jersey voters are good."

New Jersey likely voters approve 60 - 34 percent of the job President Barack Obama is doing, the first time this question has been asked of likely voters. Obama gets 90 - 7 percent approval from Democrats and 54 - 38 percent approval from independent voters, while Republicans turn thumbs down 71 - 21 percent.

From July 8 - 12, Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,514 New Jersey likely voters, with a margin of error of +/- 2.5 percentage points.

1. I am so pissed at Corzine
Acting Governor Cody was doing a great job (when he had the job). I was so pissed when Corzine left the Senate to run for Governor. First off he was doing pretty well there. Secondly I couldn't help but feel it was an ego move. Now he has had the job for over 3 years and I have to say he has done a pretty poor job of running things. He has no vision or leadership. He loves to piss people off with petty things (like taking away the day after Thanksgiving for State and local governmental workers). He has single handedly hurt the party with his moves. Had he stayed in the Senate and let Cody run for Governor, the State and the party would have been much better off.

5. I got the impression Cody had an easier time because he wasn't running for anything
Had he not been merely a placeholder Governor I think the Republicans would've made his life much more difficult. But you know more about New Jersey than I do, so I could be mistaken.

8. I am sure he would have had a more difficult time
but that doesn't take away his leadership ability and his natural aptitude for the job. Even before Corzine made his move, Cody was getting high marks from the NJ citizens.

2. NJ is one of the least governable states ( after CA and NY) .. and all of them have Dems ..so maybe
Dems arent a good option at the local level ...

NJ has the highest property taxes in the country ( I pay friggin $11,000 in local taxes and get billed separately for sewage - I mean WTF???) - The police station only keeps the reports window open between 1 and 4 pm -- which means I need to take time off from work .. and when I do get there - those fucks keep me waiting for 1/2 hour to get a car accident report...

I am all for paying my fair share of taxes -- but I need services in return .. and dont like wastage...

Corzine raised tolls and what does he do with the money? - He wants to wide NJTP instead of using to improve Public transportation .. every three months I see my tolls go up
( I could go on & on ) but bottom line Corzine has not done enough.

Sorry - He's gotta go.

6. It's only July, I'm not worried
New Jersey is the semi-annual GOP bastion of false hope. They pour a few million bucks into the expensive media markets after polls like this come out and it gets them nothing.

10. That is usually the case, but now I think it means Christie would win by 5 or 6.
I think Corzine is legitimately in trouble

And that means a Summer full of very negative ads in Jersey

9. Incumbent governors...
...are going to get slaughtered, regardless of party. They always do in recessions. Dukakis was denied re-nomination in convention by his own party at the end of his first term when things in MA went pear-shaped and the local version of Prop 13 was the battle du jour.
