Sotomayor Surprises Sessions
http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2009/07/14/sotomayor-surprises-sessions/

Sen. Jeff Sessions (R., Ala.), seeking to discredit Judge Sonia Sotomayor’s judicial philosophy, cited her 2001 “wise Latina” speech, and contrasted the view that ethnicity and sex influence judging with that of Judge Miriam Cedarbaum, who “believes that judges must transcend their personal sympathies and prejudices.”

“So I would just say to you, I believe in Judge Cedarbaum’s formulation,” Sessions told Sotomayor.

“My friend Judge Cedarbaum is here,” Sotomayor riposted, to Sessions’s apparent surprise. “We are good friends, and I believe that we both approach judging in the same way, which is looking at the facts of each individual case and applying the law to those facts.”

5. Oh my! I love it!
Judge Sotomayor is certainly impressive in this hearing, both on her responses to genuine questions regarding constitutional issues and her responses to racist creeps like Sessions. There is no question she is going to be an positive addition to the Supreme Court!

10. It was damned inspiring watching her let Sessions babble on
Sometimes she wanted to answer him and he'd cut her off. How dumb is that? She is the most impressive SC nominee I have ever seen. Why are there not more like her out there?

22. Not only is she brilliant in terms of her knowledge of the law,
but she knows how to handle these asshats, wiithout letting them suck her into their crap. She's amazing on several levels. Obama knew what he was doing when he chose her. She'll be great on the court.

11. There's follow-up in the article in the OP
Cedarbaum agreed.

“I don’t believe for a minute that there are any differences in our approach to judging, and her personal predilections have no effect on her approach to judging,” she told Washington Wire. “We’d both like to see more women on the courts,” she added.

Also, interesting background there on her connection to Sotomayor and Sessions.

Brief and well worth reading.

Huge fail for Sessions.

13. She must have seen Annie Hall
There's a scene in Annie Hall when some fevered ego case is bloviating about Marshall McLuhan while standing in line behind Woody at a movie theatre. Woody says, "You have no idea what you're talking about," and goes behind a cardboard display to bring out THE Marshall McLuhan, who says to the man, "I have heard what you've been saying here and I have to say you know nothing about my work at all." Woody turns to the camera then and says, "Don't you wish sometimes you could actually do that?"

21. Ha Ha...
A little history between the two as well (Cedarbaum and Sessions that is). From the blog.....

In 1986, Cedarbaum and Sessions were both nominated to the federal bench by President Ronald Reagan, and were members of the same orientation class for future judges. Their paths then diverged, however. Cedarbaum was confirmed, but Sessions nomination floundered over a controversy surrounding comments he made involving the Ku Klux Klan and the NAACP

37. OMG how perfect is that - I immediately thought of Annie Hall/Marshall Mcluhan too
and was delighted to see others remembering that as well.

That is just too good. To see incompetence, laziness, and ignorance caught in its own stupid trap. Just delightful.
