1. The unrecommend encourages me to make a judgment about every thread.
Edited on Tue Jul-14-09 10:31 AM by Laelth
I used to just read threads, and then, if I came across something I really liked and thought deserved greater exposure, I would recommend it.

Now I feel obligated to pass judgment on every, single thread I read and either recommend it or unrec it. It's taxing. And that explains why we're seeing such high recommend totals. Lots of people are feeling the need to pass judgment on every, single thread.

2. Most of the interest boils down to biased perceptions and political ideologies

12. I think that rule applies to you as well.
Ultimately, it seems this discussion is now moot.

13. That's very odd that you would feel 'forced.'
I didn't use the recommend feature before, and I'm not using either now. How are you "forced" to do anything?

I guess I just don't understand.

14. You are the second person to take issue with that word. I must change it.
So that people can actually respond to the point I am making.

15. I see the change you made. That's a lot better, I think.
Still, you may do as you please. Nothing about that fact has changed.

3. Yes. I am using it a great deal.
There are a lot more threads that should be Unrecommended than Recommended.

If this were your site, would you want most of the topic subject lines on your front page? I'd want the better ones, and want to avoid having the "I Haz Katz" or the "These Fox News Motherfuckers Suck Donkey Dicks!" threads.

But, to each his or her own. Call 'em as you see 'em.

4. I don't feel any pressure to Rec or UnRec.
If I really like an OP and feel it is well written and has good points, then I will Rec it. If I don't like the OP and it is not well written, I don't feel it makes any good point, or the writer simply has a pissy "screw you if you don't believe me" attitude then I will UnRec it.

This is a simple and easy process for me. I will use UnRec the same way I use Rec: when I personally feel it is merited. It's nice to have another choice now. As a Democrat I am in favor of choice. Others do not like choice.

6. Never. I think it can actually dillute discussion of issues.
Whether I agree with a post or not, the unrecommend feature may take it away from my attention.

7. A bit more than I used rec previously - just because they removed the speedbump...
(which I favor reinstating.)

20. Well it's a new feature?
Some people might not have done much with it yet, but have an idea of how they will use it in the future.

22. Unrec is easier to click than type up a disagreement response
so I will be using hte unrec in lieu of disagreement from now on.

The hissyfit over the unrec feature is quite hysterical to me. I must say, I've unreced MANY more threads in the last few days (mostly threads like this) than I could have imagined.

27. I will on rare occasions recommend a thread
Edited on Tue Jul-14-09 12:16 PM by Blue_In_AK
if I really, really like it. I won't ever unrecommend, unless it's someone just cheerleading the unrecommend option in an "in-your-face" kind of way.

I'm not thrilled with unrecommend, but it's Skinner's site and he can do whatever he wants.
