So, when a thread about how Randi is crapping on Franken
has "less than zero" - even though the majority of the respondents disagree with her

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x8523655

does this mean that the "Uers" don't like the post reporting this, or don't like the content about Randi?

2. Same question exists when a thread has positive recs. The "problem" is not new to unrec'ing.

3. That's true. As I've posted on another thread
there are several DUers who would get a gazillion K&R for just posting "good morning" not to mention occasional jokes when there is absolutely nothing in a post..

Still, a positive reinforcement and an adulation are more acceptable than the "U" which appears to be in stealth. For a crowd such as DU, that likes to express an opinion, just giving a thumb down without a comment is very cowardly.

6. The rec is in stealth too when the poster wants it to be - just like unrec. No difference.

12. Exactly! Some could post, "I farted" and get a hundred Recs based on their name.
People should really stop getting all caught up in the number of Recs. Ultimately the threads which truly belong there will make the Greatest and rise to the top.

4. Dunno. The reason for the U is vague at best... maybe they're turned on for its kinky nature...

7. well, when a thread is established
with the vast majority of people holding position A, sometimes others would rather not start anything by posting position B. They're unrecing instead of wading in.

Or, it's as you say

8. I just read it and my reason for unrec'ing it
was the ad hominem attack against her in the OP. And I'm not even a fan of her - I don't listen to her, I find her rude. But if your response to her critiquing someone is to call her "a fucked up woman from a dysfunctional home" instead of providing thoughtful commentary about the content of what she's saying, that's a low level of discourse for a political discussion board.

Hope that makes sense, nothing personal.

since the whole "U" thing started

14. I dunno. What is "my way" that I am supposed to "get"?
I certainly am not going to "hold my breath" until you acquire some manners.

I asked a simple question. You could have just skipped this post, not reply, or attempt at reply. Instead you choose to be vulgar and this, of course, is the characteristic of the ones going around with their "U." Passive aggressive that cannot be applied to bosses or co-workers (if you work for a living) or to spouses (if you are married) so go anonymously to a message board and show your poor manners.

10. Not a shred of substance in the post
Tell me why you want me to click something and it better not be some cockamamie manipulation or some high school hyperbole.

15. Rudeness is the hallmark of too many DUers
Instead of ignoring a post, or not responding, or responding, they choose to be vulgar.

16. It means very few give a damn what Randi thinks. Why even acknowledge her?
