1. I defer to the owners/moderators of this website...

It is their site and their decision. I am just a guest here.

My only criticism is that the recs cannot go negative. To be legitimate, it should have an equal range in both directions.
My only fear is that the single-issue operatives will appear to have more influence.

2. My problem with it is
I have to open the thread before I "UN" it. You should have the feature right after the poster's name in the thread list

22. I disagree. Once in a blue moon, I'll open a thread by a DUer I think is
an asshole and find they've written something I was glad to have seen, for a change. Similarly, I have impulsively clicked on some underwhelming thread titles and found real gems -- sometimes not in the OP, but in the replies.

its fun to do.

Maybe its not that bad, we'll see.

5. I think it is superfluous but then I thought "ignore" was superfluous.
It seemed to me that you could just as well "ignore" someone by, well, just ignoring them. Similarly, you can "un-recommend" by not recommending.

Seems a waste of time, really. All this energy putting people on Ignore and Un-recommending threads seems a bit childish to me.

16. it wouldn't be so bad if:
1) there was some cost to rating as there used to be--namely an irritating necessity to confirm your vote before returning to read. Now it is just too easy to fly through topics either rec'ing or unrec'ing without thought.

2) there was some clear identification of how many TOTAL votes any thread got. Right now this is a stealth operation and that makes it very hard to determine what is happening--whether it is a thread with a lot of diverse views or it is just uninteresting if it has a low vote count.

20. IMHO....it just doesn't matter
In my own case, I can't think of the last time I checked the greatest page. I go to a forum and read the first few pages instead.

The way I see it, one's original post will get more exposure because of the number of responses it gets ("kicked") not because it is on the greatest page.
Which is why I have NEVER understood 2 things: why people will respond negatively to an original post ("WHAT..another xyz thread????) when all THAT does is get it KICKED to the top again. 2nd: getting 5 or more recs but NO replies. If you think it's a good enough post to rec it, why not respond to get it bumped back to the top for people to see.

Personally, I'd rather be given lots of responses/kicks than have my original post get a rec.
