"Rec/Unrec" vs. "DU this poll"
I think the former is more acceptable in terms of free speech, since you can only "vote once." If unrec resulted in deleted posts, that would be another story.

Maybe someone can someone explain the point of DUing polls? Particularly non-national polls.

1. UnRec Does NOT delete a post.

3. You are right. The Rec/UnRec brouhaha is really much ado about nothing.
Nobody's thread is deleted and each post added to the thread kicks it toward the top of the forum.

As for DUing polls, some are all excited about it and are convinced it is meaningful. It seems when we vote numerous times in some online poll it is noble, but when Republicans do the same thing it is evil. I don't bother with it.

Choice. It's the Democratic thing to do, or not do.

4. Not really true that you can only vote once if you want to game a poll or rec/unrec
Organized posters can use multiple usernames and isp addresses to tilt the results and kill any post (or make it MUCH less visible).

If you think about it, a little bit of offsite organizing can keep any post off the greatest page or the front page.

You need motive, means and opportunity which opponents of democracy have plenty of.

5. I stopped doing on-line polls over a year ago. They're meaningless.

6. I'm with you. I don't use the rec/unrec feature either.
I used it in the Lounge for the first day, like everyone else, but not anywhere else, and not any longer. In the Lounge, it is a joke, since Lounge posts don't go to the Greatest page anyhow.

7. I say we get rid of "unrecommend"
Some people will vote it down just to piss off other DUers.
