Are you ready for some really ugly republican shenanigans?
Not that it's anything new but the repukes on the Senate Judiciary committee are planning to pull out all the stops on attacking Sonia Sotomayor in her confirmation hearing, which begins on Monday. They're frustrated, they're angry and they're out for blood.

The charge will be led by unabashed bigot, Jeff Sessions who is now the ranking repub on the Committee, but the rest of the repuke Committee members are hardcore assholes too- Coburn, Cornyn, Kyl, Grassley, Hatch and Graham.

There are five more dems than repukes on the JC, so there's virtually no chance they can derail the nomination, but they're going to push ugly to its limits- out of impotence, pettiness and pique. typical repuke shit.

3. and alienate an entire hispanic population that is becoming a powerful
voting block. I would think Sen Kyl might tread lightly in these waters. Arizona does have a large hispanic population.

5. Write off electoral votes for Arizona, California, New Mexico, New York, New Jersey, Florida, etc.
Attacking Judge Sotomayer will be seen as vicariously attacking the Hispanic Community.

6. bingo. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if both Kyl and Graham tread a little more
lightly than others. Cornyn would do well to dial back on the attacks as well. What do you think the odds are that this will be voted out of Committee on party lines?

2. If the Pukes roar and claw at Judge Sotomayor, I think we should
use excerpts of their comments in districts with significant numbers of Hispanic voters for the 2010 Congressional elections.

Sometimes a couple of percentage points means a blue seat instead of a red seat. Plus, there should be a penalty for turning the Limbaugh hose onto a worthy nominee.

Let the Pukes lose ground with a major voting constituency AND be powerless to stop confirmation of a great judge.

7. They do it knowing Democrats tend to get weakkneed and seldom
fight back. This is also about the next nominee (trying to shape the type).

9. I agree that this is also about the next nominee
but I don't think you're correct about their motivations. In this case, they're doing it out of bigotry, out of frustration and out of pique and because they're trying to stir up doubts. You're mistaken that the dems on the committee won't fight back. Leahy, Whitehouse, Durbin, Feingold and others certainly will. There's a reason why repuke Senators consider Leahy to be the most partisan dem in the Senate and refer to him as a junkyard dog- and it's not because he'll give them a pass on outrageous crap. He won't.

hoping the Democrats will be timid on the next offering and they might be able to get some more Blue Dogs on their side.

11. They'll do it because they believe that playing to their base outweighs
any other consideration, though as glowing pointed out, some of them come from states with a large and growing hispanic population, and that those senators may tone down the rhetoric. I don't believe they think that they can do much to influence who is nominated.

8. T Minus 3 Days...
...until the rushpublicans destroy all their already tattered reputation with Hispanics. What turning Mexicans into racial footballs last year did to hurt that inept party in the South & West, will be expanded to ALL hispanics when Sessions and his racist horde are finished. We'll hear every Rushbo talking point and the hatred and obstructionism will be obvious to all...except for the 20% dead-enders.

Their game won't be to derail this nomination. They can't. It'll be to make noise and try to raise as much money from their racist coven...nothing more.

12. We can only hope
If the Republicans want to play to their hardcore bigot 25% base, I say let them. I'm sure the Dems are prepared to let (& even help) the Republicans dig the hole even deeper.
