and whether it is or is not homophobic. And the composition of the panel is interesting: Jonathan Capehart, Stephen A Smith, and a representative of GLAAD--all three of whom are African American (you never see this on cable news unless they are discussing race) and two of whom are gay men.
But that's not really the most shocking thing to me. At one point, they went to footage of the Pope meeting with President Obama and Ratigan said, "we can watch footage of the President with the Pope while talking about the gay lifestyle, right?" And Jonathan Capehart, to his immense credit, said, "it's not a gay lifestyle, it's a gay life" And then Ratigan, disobeying all the rules of cable news, said, "you're right. I'm an idiot."
I was amazed Ratigan would allow a gay man, and specifically an African American gay man, on his tired old terminologies without taking umbrage and admitting he had made a mistake. Even Stephen A Smith, whom I have hated for years (thank you ESPN for disappearing him) advocated LGBT self-definition. What's the world coming to?
