Why not get rid of both the recommend and unrecommend functions?
We have had the new system for a matter of a few hours and all hell's broke loose. I guess it's true old saying to beware of what you ask for, because I've been on DU for several years and this is something that has been asked for many times by many different posters. I personally think a posts worth shouldn't be due to how many recommendations it has.

Why not just get rid of a rating system all together? Get rid of recommend and unrecommend.

Don't worry if you don't like this post and want to vote unrecommend I won't break down and cry.

2. Pfft, that's my thought as well.
People can't act like adults, then they should be treated like children. Can't share? Then neither of you get the toy.

They'll move on to something else when the shine wears off.

7. Just like with Obama...
...if people don't see the results they want RIGHT! THIS! MINUTE! they write off the whole thing as a failure.

5. "all hell's broke loose"???
I must have missed the blood in the streets.

Personally, I think it could have been implemented in a better way, but I don't see any more discord than would exist with ANY change.

9. Because then the anti-Obama whiners would have no route to Greatest....
They require 2 things:

1) A route to Greatest
2) That route be invulnerable to any who disagree with them.

21. Why must you be able to keep people who criticize Obama off the Greatest page?
Isn't it enough that you can go to their threads and make the case for YOUR view?

Why do you have to be able to organize to keep threads OFF the Greatest page simply to avoid those threads being "invulnerable"?

What, exactly, are you so paranoid about with those threads anyway?

Is there anything that's posted on DU that could do the administration any real damage? Last I heard, we ain't never had THAT kinda clout. Ever.

I'm sure your doctor will write you a script for these:

10. No! NO!
Some of us (the uncool kids here on DU) absolutely NEED to recommend feature.

We need to know what the "cool kids" here on DU are doing, so that we can follow along and be like THEM.

PLEASE do NOT remove the "recommend" feature.

I (and I'm sure lots of others, too!) would be lost -- LOST, I tell you!! -- without it.

11. How about rationing the recs?
... and maybe the unrecs as well. Members would be more thoughtful about using up their recs and unrecs if they were allocated a certain amount per day.

Just an idea.

Seriously, what's the big deal? You'd think it was a matter of national security or something.
