So my brother-in-law from Orange County came to our place on the Central Coast for the 4th of July
weekend. The night of the 3rd we were at our mother-in-law's house for dinner. My brother-in-law starts in with the right wing talking points and I countered them with left wing talking points. That's how the evening went.

The morning of the 4th we all went to a small town parade. There were Marines and firefighters and flags and bands and horses, the whole nine yards. He and I saluted the flags and clapped for the Marines and firefighters.

Than back to our place where we had about 30 people in the back yard sitting around waiting for me and my brother-in-law to finish cooking dinner on the grills. He was doing the wing nut talking points again and turned to the crowd and said, "This is what we fought for!"

I said, "No, this is what some of us fought for." Then I proceeded to put on my Vietnam Veterans base ball hat.

We didn't hear another chicken hawk, right wing peep out of him all day!

I do the same thing with my USAFSS cap when needed. Lots of chickenhawks out there.

I even nailed a local winger talkshow host once. He was all "lets you and him fight" on the air one time, so I called in. I started thanking him profusely for his service and allowed as how we needed more veterans like him on the air. Well, he's not a veteran (which I knew going in), and had to admit it on the air. I feigned shock and surprise that he had not served, given his gung-ho crap, and ended my call by saying that he was just another "Let's you and him fight" chickenhawk.

After I hung up, he started trashing me, but several other vets called in and chewed his butt out, too. Felt good, it did. He's no longer on the air in the Twin Cities.

4. Sometimes think we need to pay them for playing the straight man in comedy skit
even though they didn't know that they were doing it at first.

6. We could send them to the "Bud Abbot/Dean Martin/Bing Crosby School of Comedy"
We could offer them student loans!

7. Is that really what you fought for in Vietnam?
I was drafted and I went there and I fought but to say it was for everyone's freedom here is quite the stretch..I still do not understand all the reasons we were in Vietnam but to protect our freedom was never a reason I considered to be valid.

8. No, I don't know what I fought for in Vietnam. I just use that for the purpose I did here.

I was drafted.

I believe the war should never have happened and McNamara said as much.

On edit: The only reason I can come up with for fighting in Vietnam for me was to stay alive.
