Talks between the ousted Honduran President Manuel Zelaya and the leaders of last week’s military coup begin today in Costa Rica. Speaking late Wednesday Zelaya said he is seeking the resignation of the interim Honduran government within 24 hours. He emphasized he was in Costa Rica for talks but not negotiations with the forces that ousted him. Citing widespread international support Zelaya added that expects to be shortly reinstated as President.

Zelaya and his rivals agreed to talks mediated by Costa Rican president Oscar Arias after Zelaya met Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in Washington this week. Meanwhile the interim government led by Robert Micheletti, who was sworn in hours after the coup, has said Zelaya will not be reinstated as President but instead tried for abusing the constitution if he returns.

Well shortly before the ousted President Manuel Zelaya left Washington, DC for Costa Rica on Wednesday morning he sat down for a brief interview .........

2. Honduras: What's Black and White and Gets the Red Out?
By Al Giordano - http://narcosphere.narconews.com/thefield/honduras-whats-black-and-white-and-gets-red-out

CubaDebate has an illuminating find regarding the coverage of the crisis in Honduras by the pro-coup newspaper, La Prensa.

The now-iconic photograph of the late 19-year-old Isis Obed Murillo, being carried by his friends to seek medical help moments after his shooting by gunmen during Sunday’s demonstrations in Tegucigalpa, was also published by the Honduran daily… Except that La Prensa chose to airbrush the young man’s blood out of the photo.

Media that literally whitewashes the story to this extreme, of course, is not shut down, destroyed or attacked by the coup regime. That treatment is reserved only for real journalists.

SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, July 9 (Reuters) - The two rivals for power in Honduras prepared for talks in Costa Rica on Thursday to try to thrash out a solution to the political crisis triggered by last month's coup in the Central American state.

But despite strong international pressure for ousted President Manuel Zelaya's reinstatement, prospects for a quick settlement seemed slim as the two sides have stuck to their respective positions, both claiming the support of Honduras' constitution and people.

Zelaya and the interim president installed in his place after the June 28 coup, Roberto Micheletti, were due to meet separately with the talks mediator, Costa Rican President Oscar Arias.

A Florida Republican who has been critical of leftists in Latin America introduced a resolution Wednesday condemning ousted Honduras President Manuel Zelaya for his "unconstitutional" actions.

The resolution titled "Expressing the support of the House of Representatives for the people of Honduras," introduced by Rep. Connie Mack with 10 Republican co-sponsors, came a day after Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton met with Zelaya, who had attempted without success to fly back to Honduras over the weekend.

Mack's resolution slams Zelaya for the constitutional referendum that the president pushed to serve additional terms, as well as for the poor living standards in Honduras under his term and the relations he has with Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and Cuba's Fidel Castro.

"Manuel Zelaya’s record on quashing freedom looked like it was ripped from Hugo Chavez’s playbook," ...

Especially the raising the minimum wage part.
That quashes the freedom of slavery in the Third World!
