1. Looks more like figures from playing cards to me
The heart in the middle of the king's chest, the necklace of diamonds around the queen's neck:shrug:

5. "Playing cards"
Maybe it refers to how banking and finance are conducted in this country now days...

I'm still trying to come to terms with "credit default swaps" or how you can sell something you don't have.

7. Yea the king and queen of hearts is more of a statement

then a royal comparison. Usually diamonds is money, hearts is love.

I don't follow or pay any attention to tarot meanings, I give them no value, but just looking at the simple symbolism of diamonds versus hearts.

It is told clearly in this song.
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x76zi6_the-eagles-desperado-live-2008_music

"don't you draw the queen of diamonds, she will hurt you if she is able, the queen of hearts is always the best bet."

Notice how they speak of losing all your highs and lows, the attempt of removing all feeling, the attempt to remove all passion and feeling.
"Your losing all your highs and lows, ain't it funny how the feeling goes away."

However as mentioned by above poster the diamonds around the neck make a mixed metaphor, since the choice of yokes is a common metaphor. It makes it interesting. Also in the picture the king seems to have a diamond crown.

There is another metaphor for diamonds, saying they are knowledge, or jewels. It may be like that also.

4. Well, let bygones be bygones
Rather sour pusses considering they're wearing "Love" on themselves...

6. Check out the Virginia state capitol some time.
Just off the rotunda there are two photographic portraits, the Queen of England and Prince Philip. Both about 20 feet from Houdin's famous statue of George Washington.

8. Oh, FFS. Issued on May 8, 2008. "Love: the King and Queen of Hearts"
This stamp is one of the "Love" Series...

"This is a Convertible Booklet of 20 44–cent Love: King and Queen of Hearts definitive stamps.

On May 8, 2009, in Washington, DC, the Postal Service™ will issue a 44–cent, Love: King and Queen of Hearts definitive stamp with two different designs in a convertible booklet of 20 stamps. The stamp was designed by Derry Noyes of Washington, DC, and Jeanne Greco of New York, New York.

Since the beginning of its popular Love stamps in 1973, the U.S. Postal Service® is paying clever tribute to the world’s favorite “game” with the issuance of the King and Queen of Hearts, the latest stamps in the Love series. Artist Jeanne Greco, New York, New York, created the art on her computer for the two stamp designs, one showing the King and one showing the Queen, by using images from 18th Century French playing cards as a reference.

Over the years, the Love stamps have featured a wide variety of designs, including heart motifs, colorful flowers, and the word “LOVE” itself."

10. Well, ya know...
It wouldn't surprise me if a poster took exception to the depiction of royalty on a US stamp.

Strange place, DU...
