Remember the Notre Dame Speech? Hey! The Pope Just Blasted Capitalism! Where's Fox News?
This just goes to show that the real bias in the media is the almighty dollar, which generally leans conservative, but it can also ignore religious leaders, like the frickkin Pope of all people, when such leaders say things that are critcal of corporate America. The message is clear. The news networks have no problem covering disputes between the church and liberals over issues like abortion or gay marriage. However, when the church makes any reference to social justice (even a relatively weak one) that comment is quickly ignored. So, when is the anti or pro gay marriage rally that the media can cover?

###

Pope Benedict XVI, on the eve of a global economic summit, lashed out at modern capitalism for being shortsighted and short on ethics.

"Today's international economic scene, marked by grave deviations and failures, requires a profoundly new way of understanding business enterprise," the pontiff said in his third encyclical letter, "Charity in Truth," which was released Tuesday.

The papal letter was released as the heads of leading industrialized nations started gathering in central Italy for the Group of Eight economic summit, which begins Wednesday.

U.S. President Barack Obama is expected to speak about the economic outlook. The leaders of the other G-8 nations -- Japan, Britain, France, Italy, Germany, Canada and Russia -- also are scheduled to speak.

1. This pope and the last one have been warning about capitalism for decades
Not sure why this seems to be catching so many people by surprise.

2. Because Media Tends To Dwell On Gay Marriage and Abortion?
However, when the church says something about capitalism, free market, or poverty, it is generally ignored.

Here's an often ignored point. The bible contains very few references to unborn children. Probably no more than 5 or so. In contrast, the bible is replete with references to the poor and the wealthy, and it generally condemns the rich. Yet, the so-called evangelical right devotes most of the energies, not on social justice, but on abortion.

This is why I am somewhat supportive of President Obama's efforts to reach out to Christians, because I think it is an outrage the degree to which Christianity has been perverted by the evangelical right.

5. The Pope tends to be a huge douchenozzle. So it's weird when they get something right.

4. It is amazing how SILENT the right becomes when the Pope speaks
to Social Justice. Unregulated Capitalism has been a serious
issue esp. for this Pope. Cafeteria Righties are only concerned
with the"pelvic sins". Just as they ignore Pope on Capital Punishment
silence is deadening when he speaks of Unregulated Capitalism.
It is important that we emphasize Unregulated Capitalism.

9. Exactly, Where Is "THE POPE IS A SOCIALIST!" Headlines?
Republicans are pope fanboys on abortion, but on capital punishment and capitalism you simply do not hear a peep. Worse, where are the headlines "BREAKING!!! Schism Between Catholic Church and the Free Market!!!"? Fox News, of course, makes no mention of this dichotomy, but sadly the other networks fail to highlight this huge disconnect. Its private censorship at its worse.

6. The Catholic Church, through its Rural Life Ministries, has spoken out
against concentration of wealth and power for decades. Why the media gerbils are acknowledging it now is unknown.

12. I think it was John Paul 2 who said...
...something like "I stand opposed to the one big lie of communism and the myriad small lies of capitalism."
