"We cannot afford healthcare right now..."
This is a common utterance of the opposition to health-care reform nowadays. We are too much in debt and are spending too much to afford health-care reform.

However, I would argue that this is the best time to initiate reform. Those recently unemployed most likely have no coverage. Their families are at risk also.

Health-care is a huge drag on our economy and on job creation. Reform of this system would help create jobs and would help to decrease our debt down the road. Now is an opportune time to pass health-care reform.

1. Well, if we would end those two pesky illegal, immoral wars we're involved in,
I think that we could afford single payer UHC.

Of course that's not going to happen, too many corporations are making big bucks off the wars, and of course neither Democrats or Republicans are going to offend their corporate masters by killing those corporate golden geese.

2. Bullshit, as usual. Healthcare reform is a way to STOP the bleeding of money
into a corrupt and overly expensive system. It will actually save money over time.
It's just the usual smokescreen to protect the monied interests. Fuck them.

4. $14 trillion for Wall Street gangsters? No problem!
$1 trillion to occupy a country not involved in 9/11?
No problem!

Money for public option on health care?
We're broke!

9. Exactly right. Spend the money for war and profit
for the richest among us, but as the nation that likes to boast about being the best in all it does, we can't afford to give our own citizens adequate health care.

5. We Cannot Afford To Have Hospitals Close Either nor...
have doctors seek out an elite market of patients that requires a lot more per visit then many of us can afford. We cannot afford to have more hospitals closing. Many of the hospitals that care for those who are uninsured are living on borrowed time. Hospitals that do so much for others, like Shriners are fearing they may have to close some of their hospitals. We cannot afford to go backwards medically speaking. It's too bad that so many that have insurance,a good doctor etc, are the very ones dragging their heels so that others cannot also share in such a luxury as medical coverage.

8. A hospital close to me is closing. It services quite a large area
A nurse there told me that the occupancy rate for the hospital was so low that by some scoring method used by hospitals and the government it could no longer be "accredited" or something like that - I really have no idea what she was talking about.

6. that's like 'i cannot afford to fix my car right now'. but... if i don't fix my car
then i can't get to work and i will not have a job. then i will definitely not be able to afford it or anything else. it's a ridiculous argument.

7. I couldn't afford 4 days in the hospital, 2 in intensive care
but I wasn't quite ready to die, not this time.

Those SOBs need to realize if they don't back off, they will be killed the next time, as in the execution of corporate "persons" who are engaged actively killing Americans through neglect, denial, recission, and refusal to cover. People who do get care find out it's so poorly covered that they end up bankrupt, anyway.

I'm sick of being viewed by those assholes as expendable because I made the bad decision to get deathly sick at the age of fourteen.

I will be able to pay my bill but I'm lucky in that regard. Too many of us are not.

10. Isn't it funny that the people saying "we can't afford healthcare"
Are all millionaires who HAVE taxpayer funded healthcare?

And in most cases, they're the same idiots who voted to enable wars (costing trillions of dollars) that have not one fucking thing to do with defending the United States of America.
