Question to the MJ/news coverage haters. . .do you really thing the networks would be covering. . .
. . .anything substantive if MJ hadn't died or would they be on a car chase, whether or not Michelle Obama should have had bare arms at the Kremlin or how Sarah looked when she took Andrea Mitchell fishing?

1. Of course not...
I'm just sickened by the circus, and the clowns.

4. The clowns are the folks who don't understand that the death of an icon. . .
. . .even one who lead an unorthodox existence, is something that touches many people and the coverage is warranted.

10. "one who lead an unorthodox existence"
you mean a drug addict who may very well have molested children, is that what you mean by an "unorthodox existence"?

13. Yeah, how soon people forget...
And this is what we hold up as sacred to future generations... but I'm a clown because I "just don't understand." What bullshit.

17. if you need to use euphemisms like "unorthodox existance"
so you dont have to think about the true actions of your "icon" theres something wrong.

11. The clowns are those trying to make a buck off a dead man...
And wasting money the city doesn't have while children are starving just blocks away from center ring.

I stand with Elizabeth Taylor and Diana Ross on this issue.

16. NOPE-I don't see an ICON anywhere.
I see a sad and tragic person who had opportunities galore and money out the ying yang who flushed his life down the toilet in more ways than one.

People need to LEARN from the lesson of MJs life.

NOT hold MJ up as someone to be revered.

21. +1!!!
Earth Mom speaks the truth. We cannot learn from the mistakes of others if we celebrate the mistakes.

Where were all these so-called friends when MJ was sticking needles in his arms? He could have used their friendship THEN!

25. Thanks JuniperLea. Where were all these people when MJ was surrounding himself with children
instead of people his own age? Why did none of them talk some sense to him and help him?

Why did MJ's drug use escalate without intervention?

The saddest part of all this is that people care more about MJ in death than when he was alive.

Spot freaking on! Exacomundo!

As a mom, I would have never allowed my boys to attend a "sleep over" with a grown man... and I certainly wouldn't have taken money from him to keep my freaking mouth shut about it!

But I guess you and I are just stupid, and don't understand that a very important cultural icon has died.

Bullshit. I'm sickened by the adoration... and the obvious disconnect.

This too shall pass... but I'm really sickened. Really.

28. I'm a mom too and I feel the same way.
I just can't ignore that 2 kids had court cases against MJ.

Not 1, but 2.

If I had been one of those parents, like you, I wouldn't have taken the money either.

I would have made sure the lawyers fought tooth and nail in court to prove that my kid was telling the truth.

30. Funny how I don't see you as a bad person...
But a kind, caring, very maternal earth mom... you are aptly named:)

I'm not going to feel guilty today for standing up for the children. That's what real moms do. The "Jesus Juice" thing alone was a highly illegal action. I just cannot understand taking the money. Can you imagine how that kid must feel? The money was more important than what happened to him... them... yes two of them. Ugh.

32. Exactly-the money was more important than what happened to those kids.
It's like those kids were mistreated not once but twice. Very sad.

And thank you so much for the kind words, though I'm far from perfect, lol!

I can tell you are a great mom too.

Sanford getting away with just being sanctioned.

Frankin's swearing into the Senate.

Parts of Obama's speech in Russia, including where he insisted on a public option for HC.

Hospitals agreeing to cut more than $100 million from their charges over ten years.

And who knows what else that I haven't heard because it wasn't on the top of the hours news on the RADIO!

12. I've been hearing MJ on the radio more lately and it bugs me.
Edited on Tue Jul-07-09 02:35 PM by earth mom
I don't want to hear that "suspected" pedophile ever again-I have no doubt that two thirds of the country doesn't want to hear him.

But they are shoving him down our throats over the airwaves and it's disgusting!

What kind of society is this to revere someone like MJ who flushed his life down the toilet and hurt innocent children he professed to "love". :wtf:

20 MILLION bucks is NOT chump change.

And to those of you who thinks "20 MILLION IS NOTHING": let me know when you are handing it out to anyone for "NOTHING" and I'll be the first to sign up!

p.s. This entire thing is twisted, sad, and pathetic.

Because no one "cared" enough about MJ to help him when he was alive.

He was sick and twisted. And most likely a pedophile as you said. Definately a drug addict. But wee ar stoopid and jus don unnerstand...

Personally, I'm betting MJ would have rather seen all this money go toward the 10,000 plus children starving in Los Angeles County today.

So much of his money WOULD have gone to starving children, and not toward the million dollars he spent a day on his own lavish lifestyle...

22. This is more PR than anything else
They're trying to rebuild his image. If you notice during these speeches they don't mention anything from the last decade. Everything's always about when he was 10 years old through the 1980s. They're trying to make us remember him from those times.

31. I think there is a sense of self-righteousness and indignation
that OMG other people would dare to express their respect for MJ. I watched the entire memorial and it was beautiful. Seriously, if you are sick of MJ coverage, unplug the fucking television and stop being upset at what other people feel. I think most people who bitch about him are jealous of his fame and money, and the fact that despite all the character assassinations on him throughout the years, the world today watched a very public memorial to a very memorable person who many of us grew up listening to, whether we wanted to or not. I don't think any of us would want to trade our lives for his, despite all that he had? Money cant buy happiness. But it's true people the world over loved his music, and nobody can ever take that away.

I noticed the cable 'news' stations have dropped their news crawls from the bottom of the screens.

Why?
