Poll question: This is pathetic
Edited on Tue Jul-07-09 10:25 AM by Hutzpa
The President is in Russia discussing real issues affecting this country's present and
future innovation, and all we get from the M$M is MJ's memorial.

This is lazy reporting at its finest, (don't get me wrong, I love Michael too) this is
ridiculous.

My question is; Who is responsible?

Edit: To add Owners/Corporate

but we don't have a say on the matter, as consumers we do not control over programming.

Edit: change to programming, sorry for the confusion.

12. i disagree
when consumers of media pay attention to something, the media pays attention back. if there were no ratings to be had in showing this crap the media outlets would change in a heartbeat!

19. That came out badly
I meant to say "we do not have control over programming" individual network controls
what they considered to be essential viewing for consumers and thats where the problem
lies, with them choosing the type of programming that we can see, it puts us (consumers)
in a non competitive position.

13. True... But the ultimate power lies with us. If no one watched TV, they'd all go to hell.

Not that I'm promoting this kind of action or anything.

also, I don't want to contradict you. We have no say in it, except in the ultimate way: just stay away from it.

Not a nice choice. :-)

6. The two most important things in our society is feeling safe and entertainment.
MJ is an entertainer, so he gets the coverage.

14. It's amazing - CNN had a short bit about the stock market dropping
But then said, "We won't be able to cover more of this because of the Michael Jackson coverage."

C'mon, the MJ event is big, but the economy is bigger and more directly relevant to more people even if they do not want to admit it.

15. How about the public? 1 1/2 million tried...
to get tickets to the deathfest but who gives a shit about Obama and Russia? Try educating your fellow citizens on what you think should be their proper priorities and see how far you get before whining about the news.

BTW, I do not bother with much TV news and have heard and read much about the Russia trip. Lots of other stuff, too, with not too much about that dead Jackson person.

22. Where that doesn't hold up is when one examines how M$M has shaped the public mind accordingly
Big biz doesn't just sit back and allow public demand to determine the course, it spends gazillions annually on psychology based PR marketing and propaganda that saturates the fabric of the corporate culture's social landscape. So it isn't quite enough of an explanation to suggest it merely lies w/consumer demands - not if the consumers have been culturally brainwashed from birth to prioritize and value the poison jive corp America offers.

Sorry, didn't realize that you were the twentieth? thirtieth? hundredth? OP writer who pretends to ask what people thought about the circus, but really just wants to complain about anyone who disagrees. You all should really just put that in the titles of the threads, it'll keep out us riff-raff.

25. Can't believe some of you bitching and moaning because
people from all over the world want to mourn the passing of someone. Whether you like it or not, this is a big event. Do you all know what you look like? He will be buried today okay and all of this will be over, okay? You will get your media back.

28. Just for perspective...
we see a lot of Chinese TV in my household (because my in-laws like to sit in the kitchen watching Cantonese TV). Even the Chinese channels have been full of MJ retrospectives. Now, I don't think they're part of a big right-wing media conspiracy. As a matter of fact, even their regular content consists of small amounts of news and lots of cheesy light entertainment. Crap media isn't a big conspiracy, it's just what a lot of people like to watch at the end of the day, even people from the other side of the world.

coverage of 'ronnie,' which I refused to do, btw, I can damn sure sit through the memorial and 'reporting' of someone who meant alot more to me than ronnie did.
