Two men accused of dragging bull with car

Two men are accused of tying a rope around a bull's neck, attaching the rope to the rear of a car and dragging the animal at least a half-mile along South Star Lake Road in unincorporated King County near Auburn.

By Sara Jean Green
Seattle Times staff reporter

Two men are accused of tying a rope around a bull's neck, attaching the rope to the rear of a car and dragging the animal at least a half-mile along South Star Lake Road in unincorporated King County near Auburn.

The men, ages 75 and 57, told deputies Sunday afternoon that they were moving the bull to a new pasture and dragged it with the car because the bull "is stubborn," said King County sheriff's spokesman Sgt. John Urquhart. Both men were booked into the King County Jail Sunday evening on investigation of first-degree animal cruelty.

Several people called 911 around 4:30 p.m. Sunday to report that a 1989 Buick Century was seen "dragging a cow with a rope" in the 4200 block of South Star Lake Road, Urquhart said. When deputies found the car, the bull was lying on its stomach, its legs splayed on the pavement, he said. There were open, bleeding wounds on the bull's legs and hoofs.

A witness told deputies he'd seen the bull being dragged and said the animal was obviously in distress and was resisting as it was pulled down the street until it collapsed where the deputies had found it, Urquhart said.

The driver, 75, and passenger, 57, told a deputy that they always move this bull in such a manner because he's stubborn. The passenger reportedly claimed the animal wasn't injured and said, "You have to be that way with cows," according to Urquhart.

In this photo provided by Washington State Animal Response Team, shows a bull recovering after being dragged by two men in the back of their car, on July 5, 2009. The King County sheriff's office received several calls from citizens Sunday reporting that a car was pulling a bull with a rope in unincorporated King County near Auburn, Wash. Sgt. John Urquhart says deputies found the bull lying in the roadway on his stomach, with open bleeding wounds around the hooves and legs. The bull had a rope around his neck and was attached to the car. The bull was turned over to the Washington State Animal Response Team, which says he is doing well.

7. Fucking idiots.
It's a shame that the bull didn't realize just how fragile a 1989 Buick Century is.

9. I just had a thought! It would be really smart if someone could invent some sort of
transportation device, like a box but you put it on wheels, see - and then you figure out some way to attach it to the back of a vehicle. Basically, when you drive the vehicle, this wheel-having-box-thing would follow along. Oh right, also, I forgot to mention, you put the animal inside the box. Whoever invents this gizmo will make a fortune...

14. If the story is true, What if the Bull in its stubbornness was hurting and allowing
all the other people and animals on the farm to be hurt for years. What if the move was effectively an enforcement for the good of all of society.

Might not that same story be said about someone to stubborn to follow social laws and that get put in prison? Much of the story requires knowledge of why the Bull was being moved, was it for the good of all or just a few in the truck.

In that story the people in the truck were insensitive and could have found a way without hurting the bull, but there are times when stubborn things need to be moved.

Also in that article the people in the truck are not having empathy for the Bull, even if it needed to be moved.

Since there were so many collisions in the article I figured I would comment on the article like a metaphor, however I do not think anyone should think of any people as animals, that is part of the problem in much of society where people try to make it seem like some people are less then they are.

Cruelty to anything is a bunch of Bull.
