The battered and bruised face of a burglar who got on the wrong side of a 72-year-old former boxer
dailymail.co.uk

A knife-wielding burglar got a shock when he attacked a pensioner in his home - a couple of right hooks to the face. Gregory McCalium had not realised that 72-year-old victim Frank Corti was a retired boxer.
This police mugshot of 23-year-old McCalium, taken soon after he was arrested at Mr Corti's home, shows the facial injuries the OAP inflicted as he made a citizen's arrest.

Today, McCalium is beginning a four-and-a-half year prison sentence after a judge told him he 'got what he deserved.'

A court heard how Mr Corti - who served with the Royal Engineers in North Africa from 1956-58 - was at home with his wife Margaret at the time of the incident. McCalium, a neighbour, smashed his way into the couple's home and lunged at Mr Corti with a blade.

The pensioner dodged the knife and punched the intruder twice in the face, leaving him with a black eye and swollen lip. He then restrained McCalium until police arrived.

The thug's face, not so much.

3. What a clown that McCalium is.
Literally, I suppose.

Nice job, sir. Two well placed punches, and the crim was subdued.

16. Burglary is entering a building with intent to commit a felony.
It is often confused with larceny or theft, because those are common acts that burglars intend to commit.

I think I read he took a swipe with the knife, so that could be assault w/ deadly weapon or attempted murder, but I don't know the nitty bitties of English law. They could be deciding whether or not to charge him further based when they can determine his mental capacity and intentions at the time.

But "Burglar" is an accurate, if broad, description.

18. Oh okay. That makes sense. Thanks for the info.

:hi:

He got 4 1/2 years already. The story said they were neighbors embroiled in an argument over the constant noise coming from drunk-boy's house. That morning the elderly couple called the cops, and later, after they left drunk-boy went over there to do them harm.

Now that's a tough old man! Good for him and I hope he spends the rest of his life in peace and happiness.

But...

4 1/2 years? He should be doing twenty for attempted murder!

29. Mr Corsi has a talent for understatement
Mr Corti said: The accused produced a knife. It was no ordinary knife, it was more like a six-bladed knuckle duster.
'He made a slashing movement at me. I stepped back. He missed me, fortunately.

And more self control than most of us :P
I heard the knife drop. We grappled. I was trying to drag him out of the back door. We both fell to the floor. I had to subdue him by punching him, which I did not take a great deal of pleasure in.
