BREAKING NEWS: Minn Supremes rule in favor of Franken!!! HE'S MN'S SENATOR!!!
Edited on Tue Jun-30-09 01:27 PM by backscatter712
Just heard on the Ed Schultz show on AM760...

The Minnesota Supreme Court just ruled that Al Franken beat Norm Coleman in the MN Senate Race.

Given that Gov. Pawlenty said that he'd sign the certification once ordered to, I think this means Franken's about to be seated!

25. He was on CNN on Sunday and said that if the State Supreme Court
ruled for Franken, he would certify him if the court directed him to do so in the ruling. Now I have to see the ruling!

Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty said Sunday he is "prepared to sign" a certificate of election sending Al Franken to the U.S. Senate if a court directs him to.

In an appearance Sunday on CNN's "State of the Union," the Republican governor said if the state Supreme Court rules in Franken's favor in a lawsuit brought by former Sen. Norm Coleman, he will "follow the direction of the court."

"We expect that ruling any day now," Pawlenty said. "I also expect them to give guidance and direction as to the certificate of election. I'm prepared to sign it as soon as they give the green light."

30. The Supreme Court said Franken was entitled to the election certificate to assume office!
http://www.northlandsnewscenter.com/news/local/49521567.html

The Minnesota Supreme Court has ordered that Democrat Al Franken be certified as the winner of the state's long-running Senate race.

The high court rejected a legal challenge from Republican Norm
Coleman, whose options for regaining the Senate seat are dwindling.

Justices said Franken is entitled to the election certificate he
needs to assume office.

When Franken is sworn in, he'll give Democrats a big enough majority to overcome Republican filibusters.

Coleman hasn't ruled out seeking federal court intervention.

29. He's in Aspen at the 2009 Aspen Ideas Festival
Andrea Mitchell interviewed him earlier.

But I am sure he will use this as an excuse to delay putting Senator Al Franken into office. If I were Franken, I would have the Minnesota Secretary of State sign whatever is needed and fly the damn thing out to Pawlenty and make him sign it ASAP.

Congratulations to Al Franken!

and it looks damned good that Franken will be seated soon, but...

Coleman can still appeal to the SCOTUS and if he does the first step is to request a stay to stop Franken from being seated. His request for a stay would have to be filed with, and would be immediately determined by, Samuel Alito.

So until sworn in (or untile Coleman states emphatically he's done), be reserved. We could still experience a setback.
