I'm surprised how much I like The Ed Show
He really annoyed me on the radio -- I thought he was not really well informed and his banter with the callers didn't appeal to me, but I really like his show -- especially the coverage on health care reform.

The "psycho talk" segment is fun too!

1. Ed really has come a long way since his days out in rural America.
Edited on Mon Jun-29-09 05:44 PM by monmouth
I'm wondering now that he is living and surrounded by city folk he's picking up a more sophisticated thought process. I don't mean that as anything against rural America. I lived in rural America. But I think Ed is a fast learner, he watches the winners and learns quickly. I couldn't believe they would give him that spot but am now so glad they did. He's their rising star IMO and fortunately has a brain to go with it. He's learned to focus his thoughts and to make exceptionally good arguments. Go Ed!

2. He usually has great guess on too. I love Katrina V-D-H
and Tancredo is on , for the comedic value I presume.

Ed really seemed like a blowhard on the radio. But.....his MSNBC show is showing great promise.

6. I have to agree - I wrote him off as uninformed and DLC on the radio, but his show rocks
Edited on Mon Jun-29-09 06:07 PM by Phoebe Loosinhouse
I LIKE that tonight he basically had left (Katrina) right (Tom Tancredo) and fake right (Politico). Katrina and Ed could take on the other two with only half an effort. I love Katrina! And I am loving Ed - what a great surprise.

8. Tancredo, the rude-beyond-belief "asshole right winger"!
Edited on Mon Jun-29-09 06:14 PM by checks-n-balances
I don't think Ed should have him on anymore, because he doesn't give other people the chance to have their say. Talks over everybody, including Ed, and arrogant with no manners. He needs to be permanantly shut up - off of Ed's show, that is.

Edit to add: Oh, and I LOVE ED!!

11. Me too, but his choice of pundits (Tancredo, especially) offer nothing
but stupid and rude hot air, and a huge waste of valuable air time.

I appreciate how he dawgs the health care issue, and being pro-worker/pro-union.

12. Count me in as an Ed-Head too.
I don't even mind the RW zealot he has on each time, whoever it might be. He shows how to handle them usually very well, allowing them to talk but making sure his point comes across too. And I think most of the time he genuinely likes the guys he disagrees with, as human beings, that is, and that plays well, as it should. It's easy for people to get screwed up ideas by just watching TV or listening to radio. It's the principle that matters not the person. I really hope the show climbs in ratings and stays around a long time. I love it that he's a union man and knows the importance of health care, all that and he's a guy the avg Joe can identify with.

13. We're tuning in to Ed too.
We have adjusted our daily schedule.
I like Ed's sets....very professional and classy.
Also likes how he walks around the set.

Ed has become more Progressive since his early days in on Air America.
I didn't listen to him much then (too Centrist),
but appreciated his "red meat eating, gun toting, two fisted Democrat spiel.
I felt he gave permission to that element to vote Democratic.
The Republicans had done a good job framing Democrats as wimpy....like Alan Colmes.
Ed gave them a different model.

Now, Ed has turned into a hard core Progressive who is unafraid to call out those Democrats who are working with The Republicans. Ed has had a few years to watch the usual suspects in the Corrupt "Centrist" Wing of the Party betray REAL Democrats.

He was "unkind" to DiFi tonight.....and she deserves it.
Also unkind to Axelrod......who also deserves it for his weak "Centrist" comments on MTP.

He does seem genuine and nice -- even on the radio he seemed like a nice guy to hang with, but he's really done a lot of homework since his radio show started.

superficial, but I have not met the man in person.

Thank you, I will keep listening with a different perspective.

he actually seemed to know a lot about. Now that he's concentrating on that critical issue and the health care problem that is part of it. I like him a lot now, even on his radio show. NYC must have brought out the liberal in him.

19. He was a Right-winger who finally did his own research.
It took him a while, even while being on the radio, to get it. That is get that it was worse than he originally thought.

He's getting it more and more as the months and years continue.

I wish him well, but, I will always watch him since he bought into it once, he's knows how the bread is buttered. Temptation affects us all.

He's still in that conservative mode with taxes, and doesn't get that sales taxes hurt POOR FOLK!!!

Can we ALL begin to realize that falling for the neocon's regressive taxes is self-defeating?!

26. Hey Bobbo, is he one of them?
I've heard his radio show, but not watching TeeVee is something of a handicap in America.

I fail to understand why so many can't seem to grasp why sales taxes are really hard on poor people. I've put it down to the usual "I'm fine, fuck you" mindset.

32. "I I fail to understand why so many can't seem to grasp why sales taxes are really hard on poor
people"

Well, it's the common mind set right here at DU. Have you noticed the flak I get if I take exception to raising gas taxes or any o the other "conservation" taxes? People can only think of that for a direction to take, and any information to the contrary is taken as a call to battle for them. Never mind what it does to poor people!

Actually, just a few days ago when I last brought this up and said that it was a few months ago that this place was BEGGING for people to vote, and here we are, poor folk getting screwed again so soon, and I was told "We don't want or need your votes". So, there you have it. Yet, that kind of shit isn't against the rules here! Go figure!

Now, is he one of what kind of people? I didn't grasp y0ur question.

35. What was/might still be called a "Raygun Democrat". I listened to his radio show
when he first came on (in Portland), and he was just another of those Republikuns with promise. He really didn't like how badly parasite capitalism hurts most people, but couldn't quite make the connection between that and his large salary.

Very provincial and authoritarian, but pretty tolerant of otherness, as long as it's not "too weird".

Does that help it to make sense?

37. I don't pretend to know a category... he is the only one really ripping the Dems right now.
ooooooops, Thom Hartmann is, too.

And Hartmann has gotten some things wrong concerning poverty, also. I've given up on that... it's hopeless to try to talk about poverty now. We must just quietly die until it somehow becomes "sexy". Until then, talking about it will only bring on the attacks, or silence.

Actually, I'm ready for the attacks. "First they ignore you, then they fight you, then you win."

We can't get out of Stage 1.

--he has a solid populist approach to things that cuts through bullshit, and he understands radio. Turns out he understands television too.

If I wanted to ask someone to interview Noam Chomsky, that would probably have to be Thom Hartmann.
