Pawlenty won't delay if court rules for Franken
http://www.politico.com/blogs/politicolive/0609/Pawlenty_wont_delay_if_court_rules_for_Franken.html?showall

Governor Tim Pawlenty (R-Minn.) said Sunday he has no plans for further delay in certifying the results of the state's disputed U.S. Senate election so that Republican Norm Coleman can pursue a federal court challenge.

Pawlenty told CNN that he would abide by whatever ruling the Minnesota Supreme Court makes in the contest, where Democrat Al Franken appears to have an upper hand.

"I'm prepared to sign as soon as they give the green light," Pawlenty said. “I’m not going to defy an order of the Minnesota Supreme Court. That would be a dereliction of my duty."

Pawlenty said he had no plans to slow up the process to allow federal litigation to play out, but would abide by any federal court stay Coleman might obtain. "If that doesn’t happen promptly or it drags out for any period of time, then we need to move ahead,” Pawlenty said.

----

So will the Minnesota Supreme Court PLEASE get off their collective asses and render a decision? It's been four weeks since the respective sides made their arguments. What the hell is the holdup?

1. Pawlenty these days is speaking like someone who wants absolutely
no clutter in the house of his presidential ambitions.

If the Gopher Supes go with Al, Tim knows it's pretty much over anyway, and all that much sooner he can start setting the stage for a White House run.

Pawlenty...wants absolutely no clutter in the house of his presidential ambitions.

And considering that Gingrich and Romney are currently the cream of the crop, Pawlenty knows he can become THE frontrunner whether the GOP leadership likes it or not. Unless he picks a GOP hardliner for a running mate, he'll be able use his seating of Franken as "proof" that he's a "new school" GOP "moderate."

4. About friggin' time, eh?
I guess the Repugs want to drag the process out for as long as possible so that there's one less Dem vote in the Senate, and also to drain Dem resources. After, the Republican Party is the party of big money.

6. I would rather have them issue a well reasoned and written opinion
than just "get off their collective asses" because some believe they are not moving fast enough. It's MN law and the MN election process and other states should do as good of a job as they do. I will not criticize them at all.

8. Fair enough, but why is it taking such an incredibly long time?
Honestly I don't understand.

11. Over 100 cases cited - the justices
need to review EACH case. A lot of reading.

Plus they have other cases on the docket. This isn't their only case.

13. I listen to MN Public Radio and have heard a lot of programming about this
and none of their experts there who know about the MN Supreme Court and how it works, including an ex-justice, believe it is taking an "incredibly" long time since they heard the case 4 weeks ago. Generally opinions from the court are issued on a Thursday, so it may be this week or next. I am very sure they are not simply doing this to piss off people.

10. He did signal to Coleman what Coleman must do
Coleman would have to get a SCOTUS Justice to sign a stay.

Thomas would probably do it.
