In order for a South Carolina governor to be impeached:
• The House of Representatives must act as the accusatory body, with at least one member requesting that the governor be impeached. Two-thirds of representatives must agree that the governor either has committed a “serious crime” or is guilty of “serious misconduct.”

• There is no legal definition for either a “serious crime” or “serious misconduct.” It’s up to lawmakers to interpret.

• The Senate then weighs in. If two-thirds of senators agree with the House, then the governor is removed from office.

The fun is just beginning.

1-Sanford is going to be dogged by Jake Knotts. Knotts has a score to settle, and Sanford walked right into this. Here's why Knotts will stay after him:
• Sanford endorsed and put his fundraising machine behind Katrina Shealy, who challenged Knotts in the 2008 Republican primary. Knotts edged Shealy in a hotly contested race in which both Sanford and U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint made appearances on Shealy’s behalf.

• Knotts compiled dozens of pages of documents, including e-mails, canceled checks and other records, to prove the governor’s office ordered the transfer of $101,524 to a nonprofit group with close ties to the governor. Sanford had received a $150,000 state grant to host the National Governors Association. Knotts contended the money should have gone back to the state. Sanford, after the matter became public, asked that the money be repaid to the state.

Sanford was sooo stupid to go after Knotts. You better kill someone like that or not try at all. I laugh every time Knotts swears he isn't doing anything for revenge and is only looking out for the interests of the state.

2-Andre Closeted Bauer would become governor. That would give him an advantage in the next election. There are many who don't want that. They would just as soon see Sanford stay.

3-If Bauer moves up, Glenn Closeted McConnell would become Lt. Governor. He would much rather remain as President of the Senate. As somebody pointed out, the SC Governor has slightly more power than game warden. People have been trying to reform the government, and now Sanford has set this back for oh about a brazillion years.
McConnell is said to be working on some slight of hand to get out of having to move up. It involves resigning and then being put back into his position.

4-Wild Card One: Jenny Sanford - She has already beaten Sanford to a pulp with select Bible verses. If she keeps up with the press conferences, she will polite him to death. After those emails, I'm not sure what Sanford can do to repair the marriage.

5-Wild Card Two: Other Women. It is rumored that there are more women in Sanford's past. If that proves to be true, he may have to declare himself to be on par with Jesus to remain.

6-Wild Card Three - The people of SC may just rise up and make so much noise that something will have to be done. Right now people are torn. They hate Sanford and would as soon have him disappear into the Congaree Swamp. However, the entertainment value cannot be surpassed. It's already a long hot summer, and watching Sanford squirm beats anything on teevee.
Will Jenny take Mark back? Will Mark break away and return to Argentina? What other shenanigans will be revealed? If he went to Argentina, who knows what else can be found?

I feel very sorry for the four sons. Someone with some sense and decency should take them to parts unknown for several years. Nobody I've seen fits that bill. This is no place for kids.

3. Sounds like the Lt. Governor is an even worse guy then Sanford
It could be a case of be careful of what you wish for I guess in terms of removing Sanford. I mean at this rate his political career is dead. No one comes back from that. Not Newt, not John, not Elliott and not Mark either. The best case scenario might be to hope he gets left in office, but is so weak nothing gets done. If the Dems can get someone good to run in the next election, maybe a all out bloody Republican primary would be just the thing to help get us the governor's mansion.

4. Unless he resigns,
it will be a true circus. Then the whole world can see how the state is run and by who.

We have double digit unemployment, but I haven't heard the word jobs from anybody.
