State(NC)GOP vice-chair refuses to answer allegations about his Ph.D., diploma mill
Timothy Johnson, the newly elected vice chairman of the state Republican party, is listed as "Dr. Johnson" on his and the state GOP's Web sites. But he's not a medical doctor or dentist. And he won't disclose where he earned his Ph.D., leaving the impression that he got it from a now-defunct school once notorious as a diploma mill.

The Indy contacted Johnson to ask whether his claimed "Ph.D., Concentration in Total Quality Management, LaSalle University (2000)" was issued by the defunct LaSalle in Louisiana, the accredited La Salle University in Pennsylvania or another LaSalle.

Johnson responded in an e-mail, "I hope you understand when I say I am not going to answer any more questions about my military experience, education background or personal history."

He added: "It just doesn't matter at this point. I am sorry, but enough is enough. Have a great weekend."

His e-mail signature read: "Timothy F. Johnson, Ph.D."

The accredited La Salle University, a Catholic institution with three campuses in Pennsylvania, confers a doctoral degree only in clinical psychology, according to its Web site.

2. I hate that crap.
I recently interviewed someone who had a Masters degree from a notorious diploma mill (Kennedy-Western University) listed on their resume. Apparently, at least six other people at my company had reviewed his resume, but I was the only one who caught the fraud. When I brought the phony degree to our HR person's attention, I actually got my hand slapped (metaphorically speaking) because doing "background checks" wasn't my job, but, it was enough to keep the guy with the fake degree from getting the job.

I would like to connect with anyone who has been hurt by what happened when our degrees became invalid...I worked hard for a Masters and PhD with LaSalle before I came over to US in 1996 - I wanted to ask if anyone could let me know whether the Apostille Certificate allows you to use the Degree from LaSalle even though it was a non-accredited organization?
An apostille would simply prove that you have a diploma from LaSalle. It does not indicate any validity to LaSalle or a degree from LaSalle. Diploma mills will sometimes try to convince people that an apostille would prove more than this but it does not.

I take objection to you calling it a Diploma Mill - I worked very hard for the two degrees and my doctorate was outstanding - as a published writer I can testify that the standard of work expected to gain an "A" at LaSalle was that of an average college. Whilst Kirk and his cohorts may have abused the system, those of us who worked hard are the ones who have been punished the most; and it doesn't help when these comments about Diploma Mills are used in ignorance - we genuinely worked for a degree - that work should be recognized and credit should be gained for it...
I call LaSalle a diploma mill simply because the owner was put in jail for running the place. To me, that seems like a very reasonable and safe criteria...Just because it was a diploma mill it doesn't mean that no one worked hard for their degree though. It means that people can't know who did and did not work hard for the degree and that the diploma is essentially a useless piece of paper...
