41. The great GD has turned into an MJ mess & branched out into ANY topics
The GD-P forum could be turned into a "Special Events" forum: for Primaries during Primaries season. For whatever tsunami event, like MJ, whenever *that* happens.

LBN has remained its pristine self because of its identity in dealing with specific "latest breaking" (within 24 hrs) and "news."

Strangely, the Lounge, where the preponderance of the MJ threads might easily fit, has also remained relatively clear.

Only GD has turned into the dumping ground, and not only for MJ, but suddenly for ALL types of topics.

isn't working right now either - NOTHING but MJ 24/7 - even Rachel!!!?!?!?!????

They're doing nothing but pumping up the MJ marketing frenzy. Fucking sick when that's what killed him in the first place.

22. KO explained last night
that Rachel had already taken last night off, so MSNBC decided that ws a good time to put the MJ tribute there....Like they hadn't been doing nothing but for more than 24 hours straight already.

At least KO had 20 minutes of it, and then went to his regular format! That was a GIANT relief when I saw at the opening of the show that was what he planned.

23. The problem is not that one cannot avoid it.
The problem is that, because it is there, other things are NOT being covered.

Where is Iran? Where is the House vote? Where are the bombs in Baghdad? It matters to people when what is supposed to be a news channel turns instead into a 24/7 idolfest. Beyond being annoying, it causes a vague sense of insult and even dread at what we are becoming, or have become, as a culture.

Yeah, I know. Go to the internet. But it's the principle of the thing.

13. I turned the television off two days ago and haven't watched anything.
I often wonder if anyone in this country is keeping track of the growing number of people who DON'T watch much television...or at least less and less of it...and WHY. Because it's not just the Internet, or the DVD players, that are driving people away from it - it is the increasingly inane programming that seems to be directed at an increasingly shrinking audience.

I'm beginning to think that the people who dumped cable AND television have the right idea. I got rid of cable years ago partially because I felt like I was forced to subsidize right-wing, evangelical broadcasting with absolutely NO SAY in the choices being offered. It's the same with the satellite television - even the most basic plan is littered with half a dozen home shopping channels, five or six right-wing "religious" begging channels, the increasingly inept propaganda media calling itself "news," and a cabal of strange little channels which repeat the same programs over and over again.

since I don't see the Obama administration moving forward on what is most needed in the nation.

Somehow, I don't think it's going to go away, though. ;)

I read headlines twice a day, and read articles of interest.

I don't get my news from tv or radio, and I don't click on threads about topics I'm done with.

I recommend it. It's easy to filter out the "coverage" of something you've already informed yourself about.

IF N. Korea launched right now, you'd not know it. They'd have a hard time breaking away form MJ.

Yes, his music was great, but this need to 'grieve" for somebody people don't know from shinola is just ridiculous.

This is NOT a head of state that passed on people, nor somebody you knew personally

ENOUGH ALREADY, I know.

Why I am listening to music, and doing some writing. and checking on the tweter or international news to try to find out what is happening OUTSIDE the universe that is MJ and the one controlled by the masters of the universe. They must love this shit. Muricans fall for it every fucking time.

55. Anything to AVOID reporting real news.
How can any of these news anchors even look themselves in the mirror?

They want the credit and respect of a college educated journalist, but they are nothing, but tabloid opportunists. The sad thing is that they are not the only profession that dove into the deep end of the sewage pond, which explains why this country has gotten so screwed up. Which is why I think alleged "educated" people are full of shit and do not know their ass from a hole in the ground, and they are just as likely to be crooks and menaces to society. No? Then what have "educated" people done for today's society, as they try to grab as much as they can, earned or not?

67. The Much Maligned

Susan Boyle. I didn't even know who she was until I saw here name in a number of headlines here. Then she freaked out on Qualudes or something. I'm still not aware of what had people so curious.

She sang on some show and is relatively unsightly when compared to the TV Barbies or even a rotten potato.

Am I right?

68. I turn them off for days when they go into one of these phony orgies about a celebrity.
Michael Jackson is news when he's on trial for a crime. He's not NEWS any other time, any more than Miley Cyrus or Britney is news. He's a topic that pop culture fans like to talk about.

And, side note, anyone notice MSNBC presentation format changed. Weird. Anyway, the wall-to-wall MJ coverage is giving me a chance to watch alot of online stuff I've not had time to see otherwise. No news = documentaries and Netflix! I'm watching a http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTbdnNgqfs8">John Perkins interview on YouTube. He's the author of Confessions of an Economic Hitman. Good watch.

72. I found Jackson Brown on WMFE and now have "What Women Want"
on TBS, because Helen Hunt is beautiful. No MJ here.

Hubby said he was going to put up MJ as the desktpo, and I moaned and cringed. He found a beautiful pic of Farah on a sailboat in a white bikini.

74. Sorry for you but in this culture he had a big impact and reporting him is still big money.
You can't fight it. Go with the flow.

76. I agree, what's really sad is Jackson is getting more coverage then Ford & Reagan's deaths combined
Seriously, what does this say about our country, and the media, that the death of a former president of the US gets less attention then a music star's death? It's pretty darn sad if you ask me. I mean sure a lot of people would say Ford was mediocre at best, and most would say he wasn't a good president, but lots of people would say that Reagan was a success as president, even a bunch of democrats (even though they didn't like a lot of his agenda).

I mean seriously, when Ford & Reagan died I recall getting a few stories about their life & presidencies for a few nights on the news, but they certainly didn't get all the airtime, other stories were told to. I never got sick of the coverage of them getting excessive.

With Jackson on the other hand, for the last 3 nights in a row I tune in to NBC nightly news, and see "tonight's stories, Michael Jackson, Michael Jackson, oh and another story about Michael Jackson". Then I decide "ok I'll watch another news channel", and see the exact same thing on CBS news and ABC news, and decide "well ok I guess I won't watch any evening news tonight".

It's freaking ridiculous, you'd think someone in charge of what news to run at one of the news stations would say to themselves "you know, all of this Jackson coverage is getting excessive. Why don't we report other nonJackson stories, and throw anything new related to Jackson into a story we'll tell at the end of the broadcast, that way we can grab all of the viewers of the other channels who are pissed off about getting nothing but Jackson coverage. It'll help boost our ratings".
