Michael Jackson: secret library of 100 songs could be released
Michael Jackson: secret library of 100 songs could be released
Murad Ahmed

A secret library of over a hundred songs recorded by Michael Jackson could be released following his death.

One of the singer's biographers, Ian Halperin, claimed that the unheard songs had been made for his children.

Mr Halperin, author of Unmasked, The Michael Jackson Story, said before his death: “He wants to leave them for his kids, a very personal legacy to them. I was told he will not let them come out now.”

Jackson leaves three children: Prince, 12, Paris Katherine, 11, and Prince Michael II aged seven.

It is rumoured, given the parlous financial situation of his estate, that any such recordings will not be kept private for long. It is understood that Jackson may have gone to the grave under debts of about $400 million (£240 million) – though some believe the true figure may be much higher.

1. Here they come.... along with numerous commemorative items.
The estate will end up with $1 billion in the bank.
I guess his death is good for his creditors and the economy.
Hopefully his kids will have enough to be comfortable.

11. The publishing wars begin! HEE-YAH!!
Totally unsubstantiated rumor: Michael willed Paul's publishing back to him!!! You heard it here first.

5. Yes, and the John Lennon box set of unreleased items was sweepings from the studio floor.

No wonder the Beatles stuck "Turn me on dead man" in "Revolution #9." They were PROPHETS.

Let Michael Jackson rest in peace. If any of the 100 unreleased songs had artistic or commercial merit, he would have released them in his lifetime.

:grr:

6. Except he didn't know his life would end so suddenly.
Maybe he just wanted his children to enjoy the fruits of his labors after they'd grown up a bit more before anyone else did.

I was thinking the profit from the sales of these could benefit his children.

8. Two things...

...you may be right, but he'd been in serious debt for a L-O-N-G time. So without knowing, I'm going to stick with the premise that if he thought these songs had commercial appeal, they would have already been released.

Second, if the songs help his kids, there's no arguing with their release. I don't know if the family has a legal right to step in line in front of the people MJ owed money to...if so, the kids get the money.

There is a huge and unrepentant undercurrent of greed in all of this, no matter how it's sliced. The record company can talk all they want to talk about how the release of the songs will "help his kids," or even worse, if they play the "Michael's final gift to his fans" card (I've seen this stunt pulled before, it can happen again) but unless they are giving 100% of their profits to them as well, the release will also "help the record company."

9. The greed of others was a constant in his life, wasn't it.
That had to have made him miserable if he recognized it, and how could he not? Seems it may carry on in his death, too. I'm sure someone plans on making a bundle either way; I hope somehow, if anything is worthy of release, his children would solely benefit, but I'm not so naive as to think that's possible unfortunately.
