I'm not playing your game, I do not want to compete against the
poor, the elderly, veterans or any other segment/class of people in our country for heath care dollars and access to doctors.

Subsidies to this group...fights in Congress for more dollars for that group.

Pick our plan because the doctor you have been seeing for x number of years does not accept the other health care plan, maybe they'll accept whatever is labeled as "the public option" and maybe they will not.

This fragmented system is killing our country, keeping people chained to employers, stopping them from venturing out on their own if that is their choice.

One of the best arguments for a single-payer not for profit health care system is that all citizens are in this together, we all have an interest to make it the best it can be, instead of fighting for our own individual interests.

Health insurance companies DO NOTHING to provide care, they are middle men who move money around and take a portion as profits.

This is a lousy game.

11. With private insurance, there's an incentive to keep you sick
After all, money is made with each appointment, test, and procedure.

With Medicare for All (aka single-payer), the incentive is to keep everyone healthy. Because we'd all be in this together and because no one could be shut out or canceled, the best way of holding down costs would be by promoting wellness.

Just imagine: A system that is actually focused on your health and well-being, not on profits and the bottom line.

You may say that I'm a dreamer. But I'm not the only one.

12. Yup, right now the private insurance companies pass off the
elderly to Medicare, they have no incentive or commitment except to shareholders.

Each day more people are dreaming.

16. A person also has to wonder if maybe this will change also -

If we ever had Single Payer Universal Health care, the "gubmint" itself would have a vested interest in us being healthy. So maybe they would ban benzene from your hair mousse. And ban alkyls in your Lysol "disinfectant" sparys, etc.

Could end up being a completely healthy population, once we eliminate the carnage caused by poisonous products.

17. Yes. Passing single-payer would be a victory with gigantic ramifications
Edited on Sat Jun-27-09 08:03 PM by RufusTFirefly
And you've provided a perfect example.

Not only would passing single-payer establish an inspiring goal of national health and well-being, but it would finally draw a line in the sand against the unchecked exploits of rapacious and often deadly corporations.

Is it any wonder that the bought-and-paid-for members of Congress (most of them, alas) are doing their best to keep Medicare for All out of the spotlight?
