He had an amazing voice.

RIP.

16. Yea, Thriller was the best by far
I'm pretty sure EVERYBODY who was alive during that time liked those songs.

I think this is my favorite animated gif of all time..

20. I agree with you. Off the Wall is the best. However, your condescenscion towards others' personal
tastes is revolting.

Whether you like it or not, the Thriller video changed the way that pop stars performed -- with a troupe of dancers.

You might not like it. But it is a legacy.

40. There are ZERO people on my ignore list. I prefer to engage
those with whom I disagree.

It's a discussion board.

You are free to toss out broad brush insults, and I am free to refute them.

But given your "sage" advice, I doubt you'll see this as I'm sure I'm already on your ignore list.

Good luck with that head stuck in the sand.

51. I love "off the wall" but
to say everything that came after is "tripe" is a little much (you're entitled to your opinion of course).

Thriller is okay, not my favorite. I'd certainly put "Man in the Mirror" (which is what he should've called the album instead of "Bad"...ugh) and We are the World into the same category as the Off the Wall stuff.

52. As much as I love that video...
that was clearly not done a Capella. Those were the days of putting every one's voice on a separate track. If you watch his brothers behind him, they are keeping time and harmonizing with the music that is being played. Either way, Michael's voice is angelic!

was as good as you can find, production and performance-wise...still, find the young Michael singing 'I Want You Back' and you will hear the fundamental root of him UNDERSTANDING the medium and the message...

21. He was a popular culture and musical genius
There were incredible instincts at work at an early age (Who's Loving You...unreal). He was a true and serious student of popular song and dance, understood how to break ground without becoming mundane. One of our greatest entertainment talents ever, really. Yes, it all went off the rails, but keep going back to those early recordings if you ever doubt how valid his impact was and how much talent he had.

23. "The Love You Save"
Edited on Thu Jun-25-09 05:42 PM by Hissyspit
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nW_-4rLaHM8

Sing along:

The Love You Save

J5: stop! nanana! youd better save it!
Stop, stop, stop, youd better save it!

Michael: when we played tag in grade school
You wanted to be it.
But chasing boys was just a fad
You crossed your heart youd quit.

When we grew up you traded
Your promise for my ring
Now just like back to grade school
Youre doing the same old thing!

Chorus:
Stop! the love you save may be your own!
Darling, take it slow
Or some day youll be all alone.
Youd better stop the love you save may be your own!
Darling, look both ways before you cross me
Youre headed for the danger zone.

Michael: Im the one who loves you!
Im the one you need!

Jermaine: those other guys will put you down
As soon as they succeed!

Michael: theyll ruin your reputation!
Theyll label you a flirt!

Jermaine: the way they talk about you
Theyll turn your name to dirt, oh!

Second verse:
Michael: isaac said he kissed you
Beneath the apple tree
When benjie held your hand he felt
E-lec-tri-ci-tee!
When alexander called you
He said he rang your chimes.
Christopher discovered
Youre way ahead of your times!

Repeat chorus

Bridge:

J5: slow down.
Slow down.
Slow down.
Slow down.

Michael:
S is for save it
T is for take it slow
O is for oh, no!
P is for please, please, dont go!

Jermaine: the love you save may be your own...

Michael: some day you may be all alone...

Jermaine: stop it!
Michael: save it, girl!
Jermaine: or some day youll be all alone.

Michael: youd better stop! the love you save may be your own!
Jermaine: please, please
Or some day, some day baby,
Youll be all alone

Those other guys will put you down as soon as they succeed.

Michael: stop! the love you save may be your own...

27. Other. Invincible is his most accomplished work for me. The media
panned it, because they COULD. Whenever people listen to it, they are surprised and wonder why they never heard about how great it was. It's a masterpiece which combines classic r&b with hip hop. His vocals were never better.

on edit: Go to Amazon and read the reviews. First the media review which is bullshit. Then read the reviews by the people who actually bought it and listened to it. It's rated better than 4 stars.

It's too bad he never got the chance to get his personal life straightened out.

47. Early Jackson 5
One thing they shared with the early Beatles was an unbridled exuberance that was irresistable. Not to take away from either of their later works, but both landed with an explosion of insanely powerful pop and the world was different the day after.
