Perino: Women Don't Cheat
Edited on Thu Jun-25-09 03:55 PM by kpete
???

Perino: Sanford affair proves we need to ‘elect more women.’

danaCommenting on Gov. Mark Sanford’s (R-SC) extramarital affair with a woman from Argentina, former White House Press Secretary Dana Perino writes in the National Review: “If the constant stream of these confessions by unfaithful husbands is any guide, we’ll be treated to more and more of these stories.” She then suggests an interesting solution:

***"While I am not able to explain, I do think I know the answer to all of this: Elect more women. No woman I know has the time for such trysts, nor do I know any who say the desire one. They’re too busy trying to keep all the plates spinning at home, at work, and at the gym to make sure none fall and break."

Right-wing anti-tax activist Grover Norquist had quite a different takeaway from the Sanford saga, suggesting that women might be the problem. “It does indicate that men who oppose federal spending at the local level are irresistible to women,” he said.

UpdateKate Klonick writes, "I mean, of course we should elect more women to office. But is Perino really suggesting (and is (Kathryn Jean) Lopez really agreeing!?) that the impetus to women in office is because they’re too busy (read: too sexless) to be having affairs?"

7. I hate to break it to Perino
but the percentage of women who cheat is almost as high as men's.

There's varying reasons for this, but mostly, it's my understanding that women's cheating is more emotionally based.

IMHO, YMMV.

21. "it's my understanding that women's cheating is more emotionally based"
You know, I think I've heard this before, but I must ask what does "emotionally based" mean, and how does it differ from a man's reason for cheating?

34. Men like how the other woman makes them feel, according to the research I've read
But I do not believe that their cheating is essentially emotionally based.

Women's cheating? Ohhh, baby. Let's just say that I'm not going into details because it would violate someone else's privacy, but the women I know who've cheated have all said the same thing: The guy actually listened to them. He made them feel like their thoughts and opinions were important to him. The sex was better.

After you've been married for awhile, just the idea that a guy would listen to you, hang on your every word and chase you a little? It's irresistible.

Of course, that's IMHO.

Do you believe that men and women perceive love (and its resulting emotions,) differently? How about the reasons why we fall in love with another person?

44. No.
Edited on Thu Jun-25-09 05:24 PM by TahitiNut
Do people buy into cultural stereotypes? Yes. Do we 'victimize' ourselves by succumbing to those stereotypes? Quite often, yes. We are, however, as of attaining the 'age of reason,' responsible for our own development, at least in part. (And good luck finding anyone else to take responsibility for the rest.)

I regard that as neurotic/psychological, not biological/anatomical.

11. Unfortunately for those who'd like to put half the human race
up on some sort of pedestal, that just isn't the case, although studies of rates of infidelity vary widely. The more conservative numbers are listed at Wiki, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extramarital_sex. Another study cited extramarital sex figures being roughly equal, 55% for women and 60% for men, http://www.yelp.com/topic/san-francisco-55-of-married-women-engage-in-extramarital-sex-90-felt-entitled.

I'm afraid Ms. Perino is talking out of her nether throat, as usual.

The married women at my gym are some of the biggest sharks looking out for fresh meat that I've ever seen.

Those rings disappear when the car gets parked.

Found out the hard way, one time, after I met her husband.

But in their defense, most of those 14%ers are women who are too smokin' hot for one man to handle.

19. women cheat. maybe they are just better at not getting caught. geesh.
i did hear that argument earlier... just elect more women and there won't be this cheating problem. perhaps it is the percentages here... if you have more women, then you would just have more women cheating. but again, i just think women may be better at not getting caught.

33. Dana, too young to remember Helen Chenowith?
Helen Chenoweth, Congresswoman (R-ID). Admitted to a six-year adulterous affair with a married associate. In 1995, Chenoweth had denied the affair when asked about it by The Spokane Spokesman-Review, but now she claims a pardon from a higher authority: "I've asked for God's forgiveness, and I've received it," she revealed.

also...

Sue Myrick, Congresswoman (R-NC), describes herself as a "devout Christian." Committed adultery with a married man.

38. I suppose she never heard of Congresswoman Helen Chenoweth
She used to be my rep when I lived in Idaho. I didn't vote for her. She was a true wack job and she called for Clinton's resignation over Monica. But she herself had a lengthy affair while she was married to her first husband.

During her tenure, she was referred to by her most outspoken critics as a "poster-child for the militias," and in February 1995 she voiced the suspicion that armed federal agents were landing black helicopters on Idaho ranchers' property to enforce the Endangered Species Act, in line with a conspiracy theory popular in far-right circles. "I have never seen them," Chenoweth said in an interview in The New York Times. "But enough people in my district have become concerned that I can't just ignore it. We do have some proof." The Los Angeles Times editorialized that during the campaign she gained national attention by "holding 'endangered salmon bakes' during fundraisers, serving canned salmon to ridicule the listing of Idaho salmon as an endangered species." She was quoted as saying in response, "It's the white, Anglo-Saxon male that's endangered today."

Chenoweth remained a controversial and polarizing figure in Idaho politics throughout her career. While in Congress she articulated and defended a freedom philosophy that was simultaneously cherished and derided by supporters and opponents. She was a critic of President Bill Clinton during the Lewinsky scandal and was one of the first to call for his resignation over the affair, although she admitted that she had carried on a six-year illicit romance with rancher Vernon Ravenscroft, when she worked for his natural-resources consulting firm during the 1980s. Chenoweth claimed that her case was different from the Clinton/Lewinsky case since she was a private citizen at the time and was honest with the public when confronted with the charge in 1998, although claims were made that she had denied it in a 1995 interview.
