Cut That Wagging Finger Off
This morning, I've had the misfortune of listening to apologists for the Governor on MSNBC and C-Span whining about the double standard that exists when Republicans get caught with their pants down. Yes, he's human. Yes, people make mistakes. Yes, it could happen to anyone. So, why is everyone being so hard on Sanford and not cheating Democrats? Blah, blah, blah.

What some old school Conservatives fail to realize is that if you're going to be the party of Jesus you better walk on water or learn how to resurrect your political careers when you get crucified. Honestly, I don't think people really care about your personal indiscretions as long as you do your job i.e., President Bill Clinton. And, stop using that studpid line that nothing happens to Democrats when they get caught. The GOP went out of its way to drag Clinton through hell (remember that Mark Sanford and John Ensign) for his human weakness, and John Edwards' political career is a bridge in Alaska. But, let's not pretend that Sanford was even minimally adequate as governor over the last 7 years. That being said, I don't think he should resign for thinking with the wrong head.

Pay attention to the parable unfolding before you, moral minority. If you''re going to put yourself on a moral pedestal and act superhuman, get a cape and learn how to fly. Don't be surprised if you fall off and the ground hurts. This so-called double standard is of your making. And, given this past week, you're running out of fingers to wag.

1. Having an affair is not a mistake.
It is a decision. If you advocate for "family values," then that decision runs counter to your professed beliefs, and makes you a liar. I don't like liars.

12. Most of us have been tempted and have had the opportunity
to cheat on out SOs. We either decide to go ahead and cheat or we decide that we will live up to our committments to our SOs.

Either way, it's a decision. We are not compelled to have sex at every opportunity to do so.

14. I can see calling it a mistake if you're drunk and it's a one time thing...
Edited on Thu Jun-25-09 11:11 AM by redqueen
but this guy has been fucking around for over a year. It's just unreal what people in the M$M will bend over backwards to whitewash for republicans.

15. I don't know. I've been drunk many times, but
if I was drunk enough not to recognize that the naked person with me wasn't my wife, I'd be too drunk to manage a sexual act.

16. Hah... yes, good point.
I'm probably doing my own bending over backwards now... trying too hard to be understanding and forgiving about what is obviously an all-too-common occurrence.

2. Just throw back the Republican meme during Clinton's ordeal, "It's not the Sex
It is the LIEING" If ones own Life/soul mate (wife) can't trust them then how is it possible that the people can? Remember "It's all about Character" Name the Democrats that have pounded the podium while speaking about the "Sanctity of Marriage" and "Family Values"

13. It's the hypocracy.
I don't care about his personal sex life as long as:
A. He doesn't sit in judgement about others, and:
B. His personal life doesn't affect his job performance.

So far, he's 0 for 2, and as one of his very unhappy constituents, I want his lying, hypocritical, judgemental ass out of the Statehouse today.

18. Except they never accused Democrats of Hypocrisy
Clinton was accused of LYING, not Hypocrisy. Of course they are guilty of Hypocrisy and for the Party of Jesus, it makes it much worse because that was the major sin he warned us against. I was suggesting we throw their own words back in their face. "It's all about Character" and "It isn't the Sex, it is the LYING" Make them defend their own rhetoric..

3. I was very surprised last night when ABC News brought up that all of the Democratic governors, like
Spitzer resigned, but all of the recent GOP cheaters were still holding their offices, i.e. Ensign, Vitter, and Sanford.

4. Everyone is hard on Sanford because because he was derilict in his duty
and because he, and so many other Republicans are on record as holding others accountable for their spouses.

5. I think Sanford is getting the business because of the lousy way he lied.
I mean, really. And with four sons, over father's day weekend, and all.

First, no one knew where he was. Then, it was said he was hiking the AT. Then, when it's learned that he's got a couple of cars in different airports, well...that was odd enough. Then, we learn he's got his own Argentine Firecracker (shades of Wilbur Mills!).

But the coup de grace? Those lusty emails. That's the goofiest, funniest, point-n-laugh, no-fool-like-a-middle-aged-crazy-fool part of this entire embroglio.

step in, and no one even told him that Governor Lustylad had taken a powder!

which alone should stick a fork in Sanford's political career - he's done.

The affair only adds more spice to this Greek tragedy.

My bet is Sanford steps down as Governor by the end of the month.

20. None of 'em resigned. Mark Foley went gently into oblivion, but
they generally stick it out. Larry "Wide Stance" Craig didn't resign, either.

Wait, didn't they spend something like 30 million dollars investigating it. Of my hard earned dollars.
