American kids hacking into Iranian government sites to erase names
GOOD, go for it kids.

No wonder...

Ah the wonders of the world

By the way... you realize why they are confiscating all them electronics? I'll tell you why? We have more people around the world who are Iranians, than actual Iranians.

GO KIDS....

And stay safe.

10. Of course they still have the videos, but maybe this will slow things down
until the situation over there can stabilize with a hopefully happy ending, but not necessarily the sexual kind of happy ending.

12. I think this is the beginning of a long battle
but the cycle of mourning is now fully in place, and I am sure the leadership is quaking. They used the same in '79

They are all playing from the same game plan

3. Amazing, isn't it?
Cyber warfare by the good guys, on a "street level".
Sort of a virtual mass protest.

It seems fair there should be more people in the world who are Iranians.

Apparently in the election, there were more votes cast than were voters.

Wish there were a way we could let them use our cell phones as replacement for the ones they are losing.

7. Well just making your system reside in Tehran seems to be of some help
BUT

IF you do that, set your security as high as you can.

Front-lines... are now cyber front-lines.

On and goes with out saying if you tweet also set your Tweeter account to GMT +3 aka Tehran time... they have become GMT...

But do set your security ... trust me I had some fun

Edited on Thu Jun-25-09 08:54 AM by lunatica
And she doesn't have to reveal her source, nor should she.

25. Where did I claim that she was talking about Iranians?
I assumed that she was talking about Americans or at least people outside of Iran.

I know that she doesn't have to reveal her source. I was just wondering if she did. It would help in evaluating the veracity of the report.

I'm not sure that she should be talking about this at all. Why reveal to Iranian authorities that this is being attempted?

15. Hell, get them to shut down the whole Iranian government computer network or a power
grid for Tehran, or the police/army communications networks.

That would be seriously kickass.

are working on that.

And as I said above, I highly doubt this is just Murican kids...

19. Well from what the RM show guest said, they have hacked the sites
so turning them off, or blanking the drives should not be that hard to do at that point

If they do, I am betting we will not know though until well after the dust settles, if the "good guys" win.

I use the term in quotations for good reasons, and I still hope they win

So it's probably close to a fair fight, on that front.

21. Anonymous is on the job too, helping set up proxies and shuffle news.
http://iran.whyweprotest.net/

So is Pirate Bay apparently.

These are just two I happen to know about, I'm sure there are more.

Many of the kids are American, but a huge chunk of them aren't.

I've been following their exploits and style of protest for awhile now and am in awe of what they can do with the new network and protest tools that they are honing. But most of all I love their enthusiasm for free speech and the diligent research and posting of documents for public consumption.

26. Good for them. Since we're talking cyberwar, JOIN THE PROXYHEAP!!!
It takes a small amount of computer-savvy, but if you've got it, you can make your computer into a web proxy and help the Iranians circumvent their Internet censorship!

Details here: http://blog.austinheap.com/

And whatever you do, DO NOT broadcast your proxy's IP on Twitter or other public places - the only place you should submit it is to Austin Heap, following the instructions at the above URL. You submit your proxy's IP and ports at http://proxyheap.austinheap.com/

Like I said, it takes a certain amount of skill - you have to configure SQUID and your firewall to do some unnatural acts, so as to avoid detection by the Iranian government, but the instructions in blog.austinheap.com should help you with that.
