So let's stop treating them like they're our overlords, like we're serfs and they're the monarchy, WE PAY THEIR SALARIES, and 95% of them are doing a shitty job and ripping us off ROYALLY, and we pay them far, far too much for it.

Thanks for listening.

9. It's funny how rarely I hear the euphemism "public servants" these days.
Times have changed ... and not for the better in some ways.

11. It is time for those hired by the people to understand what it means to be a public servant.
High time for them to understand what it means to work
for the country, the people and to be worthy of public trust.

14. Indeed-- and how often you hear the word "leaders".
Edited on Wed Jun-24-09 07:12 PM by Marr
I still cringe when I hear members of Congress and the Senate refer to themselves as "leaders". It's insulting. They don't understand their intended place at all-- we don't have "leaders", we have representatives. We aren't children, and we aren't serfs.

It's very reminiscent of GW Bush.

15. The literal translation of "Fuhrer" is "leader" ... and that obsession is symptomatic, imho.
It's creepy, disgusting, and disturbing.

18. I have long been a proponent of the "inverted pyramid" paradigm ...

... of an organizational hierarchy. The manager-as-facilitator and servant to those on the "front lines" of the enterprise has always aligned with my values. My first choice of career was as an officer in the Coast Guard ... a military SERVICE that truly subscribes to the value of SERVICE. Finding that I was not 'adaptable' to the military, my first job upon graduation from college was teaching high school. The roots of my value system are deeply-embedded in the drive to make the world better in whatever I have done. (Even if I serve to be a bad example.)
