There has to be more to this Sanford story...
Edited on Wed Jun-24-09 04:19 PM by CoffeeCat
The Republicans have been scrambling to find someone--anyone--who can be their 2012
Presidential candidate.

Not one of the national Republicans--Gingrich, Lott, any Bush family member, Jindall--stands a chance.
Sarah Palin is a joke by now, and the only people who take her seriously are in the 20 percent wackjob
faction of the Republican party.

There literally is NO ONE to take up that banner, and the Republicans know it.

There has been a lot of speculation about Sanford, since early 2008. He's conservative, but
he does have a libertarian bent. He was the first governor to reject federal stimulus funds for his
state, and he was even criticized by Schwarzenegger for refusing to take the money. Sanford was elected
President of the Board of Republican Governors. In 2009, Michael Steele touted Sanford as "one of
four rising Republican stars". http://blogs.abcnews.com/thenote/2009/02/headline-to-com.html

No one does this, when their star is rising. It just doesn't make sense. Sure, these jerks have
affairs routinely. However, they do not disappear for a week--without making up some lie. His wife
had no idea where he was! Who takes off like that on Father's Day weekend--not expecting to get caught?

My guess is that he sabotaged his 2012 chances...or someone else did it for him.

Remember what that Bush aid said to Ron Suskind, during an interview? "...We're an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you're studying that reality – judiciously, as you will – we'll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that's how things will sort out. We're history's actors . . . and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do."

None of this makes sense. I don't care how horny someone is.

This happened to the Republican's leading hope for 2012, not some Joe Schmoe.

Sanford has probably been "courted" by the GOP cabal for some time now--getting the harsh reality thrown at him, and
being told how the world really works. Sanford was openly against the bailouts and he voted against a Defense Appropriations
Bill--standing against that bill with one other politician--Ron Paul.

The GOP will require that their 2012 candidate will continue the theft. They must go along with bailout after bailout
and be in bed with the banks, credit-card companies and Wall Street.

My guess is that Sanford didn't like the reality he learned about--as the cabal courted him--and he sabotaged himself. Either
that or the GOP decided that they couldn't count on Sanford to toe their line--and they made sure that his 2012 chances
were decimated.

1. Honestly this makes more sense than anything I've seen on tv today
This whole affair is too stupid to be real. I think its a cover for something.

5. My guess...
... is that he probably has a kid or two with the woman in Argentina. He probably went down there looking to throw a little cash around to cut the ties and get them to go into hiding to clear the way for his presidential run. Sanford probably never thought that his "disappearance" would become a story. Once it did, he knew he couldn't get out from under it and decided to come as clean as he felt necessary.

8. But a governor dispappearing...
...without even telling his wife that he was leaving???

He knows the press cover his movements on an hourly basis. It's not like he's
a regular citizen who can slip out for a week unnoticed.

Seems a bit over the top to me...

9. Do you really think she didn't know?
I would probably say she was just playing ignorant until he put his spin on the story.

He left on Father's Day weekend. The governor's movements aren't exactly the focus of the news at that time. Plus, if no one would have spotted his vehicle at the Atlanta airport, the Appalachian Trail story would have been the one that everyone was following.

7. Read the wife's statement
She kicked him out two weeks ago. Clearly he was told to end the relationship before there was any discussion of reconciliation - hence the trip to Argentina.
Note he told them in the press conference that he hurt HER his staff the wife and the boys.
