The issue is NOT that Sanford had an affair...
Edited on Wed Jun-24-09 02:12 PM by Puzzler
... the issue is that he ABANDONED his post for several days.

The MSM sideshow will try and focus on the affair bit, and compare him to other politicians who have had affairs (like Edwards). The fact is that he was the chief executive officer of the state who went AWOL. That's it, plain and simple. For that reason alone he should go.

1. Abandoning his security detail to go to a foreign country in this day and age
Edited on Wed Jun-24-09 02:31 PM by rocktivity
isn't very commendable, either. Suppose some terrorist had gotten wind of his being in Argentina (or worse, blackmailed his lady friend into luring him there) and kidnapped him?

He was completely derelict in his duty. He must go.

2. When we first discovered him AWOL,
My little girl (10) asked "Who's in charge?"

If a 10 y/o knows you're not supposed to abandon your post, shouldn't the freaking Governor know?!

4. worse than that
1- He took a state owned vehicle without permission
2- Lied to his staff about where he was going
3- Violated state law that requires him to notify the Lt. Gov any time he's going to be out of touch
and worst of all, didn't admit a damn thing till he got caught.

6. You're exactly right. The affair is an afterthought, but
incredibly amusing given the holier-than-thouness of Republicans.

8. They're both an issue.
The man belongs to a party that carries the cross before it as if it were a religious movement. The GOP goes around spouting nonsense about protecting the sanctity of marriage while one after another after another gets caught in sex scandals. That makes it an issue.

10. It sure is an issue
He's one of those Bible waving, 'one man, one woman' shouting defenders of Marriage. I've absolutely had it with that crap.
The neglect of duties is also an issue. A big one. But so is the typical yet vile hypocrisy of Sanford and all those who ride the religious high horse against GLBT rights while doing what and who ever they wish.
