Da Governor 'says he cruised along the coast of Buenos Aires '
from The State:

Sanford met in Atlanta after returning from South America
Governor says he never hiked Appalachian Trail; says he cruised along the coast of Buenos Aires to unwind after stressful legislative session

By GINA SMITH - gnsmith@thestate.com

ATLANTA -- Gov. Mark Sanford arrived in the Hartsville-Jackson International Airport this morning, having wrapped up a seven-day visit to Buenos Aires, Argentina, he said. Sanford said he had not been hiking along the Appalachian Trail, as his staff said in a Tuesday statement to the media.

Sanford's whereabouts had been unknown since Thursday, and the mystery surrounding his absence fueled speculation about where he had been and who's in charge in his absence. His emergence Wednesday ended the mystery.

Sanford, in an exclusive interview with The State Media Company, said he decided at the last minute to go to the South American country to recharge after a difficult legislative session in which he battled with lawmakers over how to spend federal stimulus money.

Sanford said he had considered hiking on the Appalachian Trail, an activity he said he has enjoyed since he was a high school student.

"But I said 'no' I wanted to do something exotic," Sanford said "... It's a great city." ..............(more)

5. I think I just heard someone on morning ho talking about the nekkid
women on the beach in Buenos Aires. The horror! :wow:

Very odd his family didn't know his whereabouts.

Maybe he should quit his day job and take up a bucket with seeds in it. Spread the wealth.

6. No one, including wife knew whereabouts, left on Father's Day,
repeated lies from staff as to whereabouts, uses the 911 fear card vis-a-vis "security" issues, like most REPUGS constantly, yet leaves the state with no one designated to respond to emergencies in his absence, his activities are a big question mark during his "exotic vacation...."

Think he's cooked for 2012? Geebus. Of course he's a hypocritical repug, so who knows.....

10. I would assume that everyone involved was lying at some point,
including his wife. This entire incident is so strange, there's no way to know who knew what and who was lying.

12. OK, that may answer my question: why the coast of Argentina? There are closer coasts.
How long does it take to get a visa? Spur of the moment trip to Argentina?

I will restate just for consideration: Summer rates may have kicked in at Sierra Tucson. No visa needed.

21. Well I just checked the weather-it's relatively chilly there
(their winter), so maybe no beach bunnies abounding.

The visa question is a good one.

11. It's those keen interpersonal instincts that ensure Republicans a robust
future in American politics. Leave the wife and 3 kids at home and in the dark on Father's Day weekend, park the SUV in the airport lot, and hop a jet to Buenos Aires for 4 or 5 days.

Eschew the familiar domestic landscape in favor of the remote and exotic getaway. Clear a few cobwebs.

from the link in the OP:
Sanford said he has taken adventure trips for years to unwind. He has visited such places as the coast of Turkey, the Greek Isles and South America. He was with friends sometimes and sometimes by himself.

"I would get out of the bubble I am in." Sanford said.

Nice! HE goes to Turkey, the Greek Isles and South America with "friends" or "by himself". Doesn't mention wife and kids at all (unless they are "the bubble" he's trying to get out of).

Now here's my big question: If I am not mistaken, the car that they found at the airport was supposed to have a tent in the back seat. Do you think he had the gall to tell his wife he was just getting away for a few days of camping and writing and didn't mention a specific location just to give himself a cover story WITH HER and then took off for Buenos Aires? Because I think we can kiss that marriage good bye if so.

24. Are you kidding?
I imagine there would be a fairly decent settlement in any divorce, if he has the bucks to skip off for a refreshing few days in Buenos Aires, not to mention child support for four kids.

By the way, I wonder how he paid for the airline tickets? Because you think she would have seen a ticket or tickets to Buenos Aires on the credit card statement (I can look mine up online, I assume she can too). Hmmmmmmmm . . .

18. OK so who paid for this?
This Gov doesn't want to help it's citizen, while being third in the nation for unemployment. Didn't want to assist either teachers or students with funding for education. If this asshole think we taxpayers of S.C. should pay for his mental health/breakdown week he's more then just nuts.
I hope someone starts pulling the funding stats. This I want to know. If his hissy fit was put on our backs, he can pack his damn bags right now and get the hell out.

I still don't know where he has been. Everything is a lie or half lie. Something is being hushed up. He is a shiny object. Anyplace else or another person we should be looking at?

30. I don't get you point about the passport
Mine is within 10 feet of me as I type this. For most people who have a passport, they can lay their hands on it about as easily as a toothbrush.

However, I do think that travelling 5,000 miles away, to an entirely separate country, without even letting your staff now (or telling them to straight out lie when asked) is damn strange.
