6. Cheney's comments yesterday
http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2007-04-06-cheney_N.htm

<snip>
Cheney contended that al-Qaeda was operating in Iraq before the March 2003 invasion led by U.S. forces and that terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was leading the Iraqi branch of al-Qaeda. Others in al-Qaeda planned the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

"He took up residence there before we ever launched into Iraq, organized the al-Qaeda operations inside Iraq before we even arrived on the scene and then, of course, led the charge for Iraq until we killed him last June," Cheney told radio host Rush Limbaugh during an interview. "As I say, they were present before we invaded Iraq."

50. I see no reason that anyone should support Cheney's delusions...
...either by creating this online poll or participating in it. I have no intention of cooperating with nonsense.

10. Agreed
Its like asking is two plus two four? - Yes or No?

That is where the level of discourse in a conservative world is today.

15. It's also retarded in that a NO vote could be construed as an admission there were ties
just that you don't think it mattered enough to justify launching an invasion against Iraq. Either way you answer it, the question was worded to assume as a fact something our intelligence agencies believe(d) to be false, or at least not supported by evidence.

21. Amen
I guess if you're trying to figure out, at best, who suffers from extreme cognitive dissonance then perhaps the poll serves some purpose.
A litmus test for the utterly delusional or completely misinformed.

In any case, I've always thought polls were for matters of opinion...at least that's the connotation under which I view them. The "question" posed by said poll isn't a matter of any one's opinion.

Edited on Fri Apr-06-07 12:12 PM by deutsey
Why isn't the poll asking:

Is Cheney

A) insane?

B) lying?

C) Both A and B?

40. They had a relationship, if by "relationship" you mean "trying very hard to kill each other"
This is just pathetic. We've become so anti-intellectual that we think any person's opinion on a subject is as worthwhile as any other person's, so it's "rude" to tell someone they're stupid for thinking Saddam and Al Qaida were helping each other.

I read an interview with some creationist who said "what I can't stand is how all these scientists think they're so much smarter than me." Well, about evolutionary biology, they are. Maybe you know more about NASCAR or fixing TVs or whatever than they do.

I don't know. It just gets me down.

Edited on Fri Apr-06-07 12:46 PM by TahitiNut
Read it and weep. We're a nation that cannot distinguish between fact and fancy - and apparently doesn't give a flying fuck, either. Altogether too many people are completely indoctrinated into elevating 'BELIEF' above knowledge. Here's a newsflash: All opinions are not equal. Not even on DU.

Clue: http://www.pottymouth.org/humor/shinola.html

52. email online@c-span.org
Subject: Capital News Poll

"Do you believe Saddam Hussein had pre-war ties with al-Qaeda justifying the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq?"

In the future please craft your poll question with more care. Objective facts are not subject to opinion.

No matter what the Bush Administration claims or says and no matter what the more ill-informed participants in this poll believe, there were in fact *NO* ties between Saddam Hussein and al-Qaeda. The Downing Street memos show that the Bush Administration knew this, yet they went ahead with the war anyway.

Now, more than any other time in it's history America needs journalists to present them with objective, factual information. Not pre-washed propaganda or talking points that masquerade as news.
