AWOL South Carolina governor Mark Sanford may have briefly checked in with his office this morning to assure them he's fine and he'll be back at work tomorrow. But he hasn't told his wife, according to her.

A CNN reporter tracked down Jenny Stanford at her Sullivan Island vacation home. Sounding less like the wife of a 2012 presidential contender and more like America's favorite reality TV star announcing her separation from her husband, she said: "I am being a mom today. I have not heard from my husband. I am taking care of my children."

and on her kids. I don't know their ages, but I can understand why she might want to focus her attention on them now. All this publicity has got to be upsetting for them.

I have no love for the Governor, and feel that he will soon reap the repercussions of this stunt; but I do find it sad that his wife and children have to suffer through no fault of their own.

23. i am really not getting this story. i did come late. i am not seeing a problem

she says he was writing something and wanted to be alone. i can see that happening in my family. with me, not hubby. and he knows me, knows need for alone, knows he can trust, knows there is not an issue. so i go alone. he does things, like hunt, mine and other things in forest, or time spent away and i dont need to know exacts. trust is there, i know the guy.

and the whole father day thing, well hey, after so many, ya ya ya. been there done that. so kids say happy fathers day when he gets home

i am not seeing that it is/was issue for wife. seems to be more projection. if there is no issue, then there is no issue for kids and could be the likes of us and media creating the issue. they could be sittin at home, totally fine, cause there is no issue

Not to be disrespectful in any way, but I don't understand why you think the wife should not be upset. My point is that the press have been hanging around, asking question after question of her. Now think about it. Wouldn't it make you a bit testy if people kept asking you over and over again about the situation?

As for why it is a situation at all--I think it is because the governor went off without letting the lt. governor know he would be gone.

in two days either not knowing or caring about her husband's whereabouts speaks absolute volumes.
