SC Republican Governor Mark Sanford has been missing since Thursday
June 22, 2009
Sanford Goes Missing

The whereabouts of South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford (R) "have been unknown to state officials since Thursday, and some state leaders are questioning who is in charge of the executive office," reports the Columbia State.

"Neither the governor's office nor the State Law Enforcement Division has been able to reach Sanford, who left the mansion in a black SLED Suburban SUV."

"Sanford's last known whereabouts were near Atlanta, where a mobile telephone tower picked up a signal from his phone, authorities said."

According to WCBD-TV, the First Lady said he "has been gone for several days and she doesn't know where, but she is not concerned."

1. She's not concerned? WTF?
If my partner disappeared with no notice for "several days," you can be sure I'd be "concerned."

2. He's been missing for 3 days and they just noticed!
:wtf:

Was he supposed to be near Atlanta? Doesn't he have armed guard? Where is he? How is this possible?

3. Gone for four days, and his wife is "not concerned"
Well, it's not like the state's governor is some indispensible man or anything. There must be loads of people who can cover his desk while he vanishes for days on end. His old lady isn't worried; why should you be worried? File this dispatch under

:wtf:

4. If he's MIA, it's probably a good thing for the public.
At least judging from some of his statements in the past.

5. Bet his girl friend knows where he is.
She probably heard what Ensign was paying for his gal pal, and wanted a bag full of cash personally delivered by Sanford, or else the phone calls would be made.

14. Markie is somewhere pouting.
He had all of his vetoes overridden by the legislature, and he had to take the stimulus money. Of course he has to get some attention somehow.

They better not ask for ransom. All they will get are teabags.

In fact, if you get any postage=paid return envelopes from a Republican, send them a teabag.

18. The phone tag doesn't mean Sanford was near Atlanta,
just that his phone was near Atlanta. Not that losing Sanford would be a great loss, anyway.

30. and this...
Bauer said he didn't know where Sanford was but said he had not been put in charge.

Bauer spokesman Frank Adams said he had been told Sanford chief of staff Scott English was in touch with the governor. "They assure they know where he is," Adams said.

English did not immediately respond to a message left seeking comment.

Sen. Jake Knotts, a Lexington Republican and a persistent Sanford critic, said the state needs to know where its governor is.

"The way things are in the world today and homeland security, we need the governor to be fingertips away," Knotts said. "Somebody's got to be in charge."
