Does anyone remember July 2001, Genoa, and Indymedia?
Edited on Sun Jun-21-09 06:58 PM by liteworker101
It was a Saturday afternoon and we had been following the events all day being posted on IndyMedia, real-time. All of a sudden there were emergency posts with people at the media center pleading for help. Their center was being stormed. People, journalists, activists were being beaten and dragged away. Cops took cell phones and laptops. It was around midnight there.

snip to end:

Unprovoked beatings of people to unconsciousness. Pools of blood everywhere. Witnesses galore. Mainstream politicians and press as witnesses.

Genoa. Many eyewitness reports of police raid of Italy Indymedia Center - GSF. "Many injuries, much blood. Many eyewitness reports of July 22, 2001 police raid (around midnight) on Italy Indymedia Center and also other Genoa Social Forum (GSF) buildings nearby and across the street.

All are in Genoa, Italy. Genoa (for those living in a cave) is the site of the G8 (Group of 8) meeting, and mass protests of over one hundred thousand people from over a thousand groups. A broad spectrum of groups seeking economic, environmental, and social justice." http://sf.indymedia.org

Genoa. StarHawk's eyewitness report of midnight raids of Italy Indymedia - GSF. Yet another great eyewitness report.

Back in 2001 we already had instant communications - there were protests being reported, almost no coverage by MSM except in a negative way.

Why is MSM so positive about twitter.com and relying upon it to feed us news now?

1. I don't remember hearing anything about this, but
it was also before I had a computer. K&R because I am interested in hearing from others. I will go read more about it now.

2. Because journalists are being arrested, expelled, and prevented from reporting in Iran
so therefore the efforts of those with mobile phones become more important. In Genoa, the reporters could report.
