Palestinians: Attack on Carter thwarted

JERUSALEM, June 16 (UPI) -- Palestinian security officials in Gaza said Tuesday they thwarted an attempt to target former U.S. President Jimmy Carter's convoy.

At noon, Palestinian security personnel said they discovered two bombs at the Erez border crossing used by Carter's convoy to access the Gaza Strip, officials told the daily newspaper Maariv.

The security officials told Maariv the bombs were found after Carter entered Gaza, indicating the perpetrators intended to detonate them when his convoy left the area.

The officials said a group affiliated with al-Qaida planned the attack, and said members of the Hamas security forces were dispatched to the site to defuse the bombs, Maariv said.

2. Phew!
Wow, the Carter-haters would have loved that, killed by his own sympathy for the Palestinians.

4. You have to admire the man's courage
He is very elderly, yet still dares to go to a dangerous land. I am glad he is safe. Also it is nice to hear a reference about Hamas that is positive. I wonder how that got through!

12. of course it is, they need people like Bush to recruit more people
Obama, Carter and others interested in peace causes less people to join groups like Al Qaeda.

7. War loving extremists always target peacemakers: Yitzak Rabin, Mohandas Ghandi, Anwar Sadat...
Peacemaker is one of the most dangerous jobs there is.
