in regards to meaningful health care reform? I'm getting the impression that whatever comes out of Congress isn't really going to do much. I can understand the concern over costs and that should be debated (no one should make a large purchase without knowing how it's going to be paid for) but the comments made by members of Congress who express concern that a strong public option would be unfair to private insurance companies should be laughed at. That's part of the reason why health care costs so much now. The profit factor.
I'm also more then a little peeved that other then about 84 members of the House and one Senator, there is no support for or serious discussion about a single payer plan. I'm no expert on health care reform but I do feel that the single payer option ought to get a fair hearing including research on how much it would cost, how much the expected savings could be and how it compares to other proposals.
During my life, I've had a number of health care plans including the active military, full coverage, VA, catastophic and medicaid. The care I recieved was good thoughout and I have no complaints there. The problem though was paying for it. When I was younger and healthy, I didn't need much care and paying for full coverage out of pocket wasn't a problem as I was working full time. As I got older and my health declined, I had to drop full coverage, switch to catatophic and spent a stint on VA care and Medicaid as I could no longer work full time. Right now, I'm covered under my wife's policy which covers 75% of my medical expenses.
