Edited on Sun Jun-21-09 05:29 AM by armyowalgreens
Some dumbass said she didn't get what it was all about. She also said she thought AZ republic should drop the comic. She said it was "too liberal".

Edited for spelling

5. Hello? Mister President?
It saddens me to say that, though he means well, Trudeau is flat wrong.

No criminals -- not even war criminals -- can strip our once-great nation of its decency. Our greater generations fought and died to forge remedies for that, in the form of laws and treaty obligations.

Only the refusal to abide by and enforce those remedies strips our decency. Obama is the steward of our decency. Only he can redeem Our National Soul.

We can only (audaciously) hope that he rises to that challenge.

7. I would like to think you're right, but . . .
Too many Americans believe that "24" is more real than World War II, and if it works for Jack Bauer it must be OK. And a lot more tell themselves "well, it makes me uncomfortable, but if it stops a terrorist . . ."

Have we lost our decency? A goodly amount of it has been leached out by the amoral poltroons of the right. Stripped? Maybe not.

But standing there wearing tatters . . . ?

9. Brilliant! The criminal doesn't demean the nation, but ...
... not using one's political power to punish one's enemies does demean the country.

Wake up. Think about this -- for the first time.

There are at least five other mechanisms for punishing these criminals that would not involve politicizing the Department of Justice.

I'm guessing you've been told this before, but you're simply too goddam stubborn to let it sink in.

32. Demeaning the nation is not stripping our decency.
Lots of things can demean the nation. Like referring to people as "one's enemies."

I would be interested to know which of these "five other mechanisms" Obama is promoting and/or implementing. And how they satisfy our treaty obligations and/or enforce our laws.

And FWIW, fear of "politicizing the DOJ" in fact IS politicizing the DOJ. (Yeah, you might have to let that sink in.)

16. They can if we don't prosecute them
The only way we can get our decency back is by insisting that there are consequences for violating it.

If we want the rule of law back, we have to insist the law is enforced even on the rich and powerful.

40. Of course they didn't. Don't blame the victims.
Millions of "decent citizens" have been demanding that laws be enforced for literally years. And they have been dismissed and/or suppressed by "political leaders" and the euphemedia -- http://talkingimpeachment.com/blog/Hall-of-Shame-Inductee----Barak-Obama.html">including Obama himself -- for all that time.

The average American is not to blame for being duped by the DC/Euphemedia Analstocracy.

The "Blame Americans First" canard is just another overt rationalization for failed leadership.

I'm not exactly sure what day you were expecting the public to take to the streets, but it's not their fault that the euphemedia they were "huddled in front of" was/is providing no reason for doing so.

23. How true
The USA should never, ever use torture.
Frankly, we work best by bribery. By first threatening to jail people for long periods of time, then by offering them a lot of money (if the target is high value) along with re-location and a new identity.

The thing is, the USA is supposed to be a country based on ideals. Like "Innocent until Proven Guilty". That was a "Flip the birdie to the King" by literally "Upending" the justice system and not having civilization collapse because a few people aren't thrown in a dungeon for a rumor.

And, look at all the propaganda of how 'evil' the rest of the world is supposed to be, all the petty third world dictatorships... Never mind the "Cold War" created them for the most part.

How in such societies you can be whisked off the street, tortured, executed, jailed indefinitely all without rights or trial. How the leaders are vicious people who care only about themselves. How the economy is in shambles but a few of the richest people live like kings there...

Well, the behavior of the US this last decade just admitted to every "Generalismo Sadismo of the Republica Del Worthlessia" that they were right, that any ideals our founders risked death for were only 'Creatures of Convenience" or "Tools of Propaganda" that were used when good to promote things or claim moral superiority, but could be discarded in an instant.

I hope Obama's able to set things on the right track (again, like Clinton did) but frankly I'm looking to "SeaStead"... If we escape an economic "Perfect Strorm" this time, it'll hit worse when the Republicans lie and cheat back into power.

The biggest problem those wounded in war have is not usually the disability. It is with the rest of us never seeing past it to the person they were/are.
