2. Hey violence gets more done sometimes than singing kumbiya
Also it lets people think that apathy is a viable solution as well.

Edited on Sat Jun-20-09 02:03 PM by grannie4peace
i've been posting about it every day but yesterday- i'd given up on du. today on my mail route i wore green free iran shirt & asked all my costumers to wear green tomorrow in support of them. most were glad to say yes :)

25. What does that accomplish?
Edited on Sat Jun-20-09 02:29 PM by Marr
I've been following the news from Iran, but I don't feel the need to chat about it. I have nothing to contribute. This is their fight. I hope for the best there, of course-- but how would my wearing a green shirt or "shaking in rage" help? I am not there. I can only follow this as an observer and frankly, that's the appropriate position anyway.

31. they find what we write on the youtube posts, they see the support we
we give them - you do whatever you feel is right for you to do. i'm wearing green & reposting their video's & rating them up, with words of encouragement . & even posting on this unreceptive forum

8. I really wish I knew why DU is paying so little attention to this
I think the worst was when I could find 20 threads on Sarah Palin and David Letterman but next to nothing on Iran.

Not to mention the posts claiming the election was legitimate by the same people who constantly talk about the 2000 and 2004 elections being stolen.

HuffingtonPost's Nico Pitney has done a great job covering this, and his live blog has gotten over 60,000 comments (it has been up for over a week now) but very few of the Iran posts here get more than 10.

14. Thanks I've been a heavy duty lurker since a bit before the election
It just seems like people are more worried about their own turf wars than world events. Its not like a lot of the other posts contain anything new, just the same stale arguments over the administration. But that's another matter entirely.

19. right, there's only 12 threads on iran on the front page of GD.
Why not 24?

Or 48?

What's wrong with people?

26. Compared to some of the other events?
Today is a bit different but throughout the week DU has been comparatively quiet on Iran. Refer back to earlier this week when GD was dominated by Letterman.

I'm not saying DU is silent, and today is better than earlier in the week. I just think its sad that discussion has been dominated by squabbling and commenting on world events seems to fall through the cracks.

And I don't mean to trivialize other matters but most posts seem to follow the same road map.

sorry if I upset you :hi:

Grannie,as a favor, start a thread with stars and all capitals,so we can have a single spot for this historical scary event. There are getting to be so many posts.

36. Dude all I did was quote you.
I didn't say I know you are but what am I. I pointed out a logical flaw in the argument that someone who has made so many adversarial replies, telling me that the personal was important (I think, seriously double negatives are bad), and then that same person accusing someone else in the thread of bringing the personal into it.

A reminder the original quote was a reply to me apologizing for any misunderstanding my remarks had caused - Real personal.

35. Some people read a lot into others' posts. Why don't you try addressing the posts instead of your
self-created straw men.

No one said or implied nothing was happening, or that it was "all made up".
