Any idea what charities are supporting the Iranian revolutionaries?
Are there any legitimate organizations providing them with legal protection, access to communications, etc.?

What's going on in Iran is very moving, and it's pretty obvious that the people fighting the oppression there have more in common with American liberals then they have with American conservatives.

1. I really hope that it doesn't turn
into a bloody massacre, but so far I'm impressed and moved by the moral conviction that the protesters are showing.

2. They're telling each other which western embassies
are treating the wounded. I have to hope that's happening.

The Italian embassy is mentioned most frequently.

The demands from the protests aren't that liberal. They want Khamenei replaced and they want to be able to elect the council of mullahs, but they don't want to replace that council as the chief power brokers in Iran.

Mousavi's presidency is also in there, but I get the impression that's negotiable. I think they realize he's no savior.

3. You're aware that under Bush Law nearly all Islamic charities got designated as terrorist fronts?

While I applaud your impulse to help, personally I'd stay far away from doing what you are thinking of doing.

edited to clarify: I don't think that all Islamic charities really ARE terrorist fronts, okay? But Bush Law is still in effect. Just sayin'--be careful with that American impulse to jump in without knowing how deep the water is and where the sharks are.
