Economy kills another cultural venue...this is sad
After 32 years, Wichita's longest-running dinner theater is unexpectedly calling it quits because of the economy.

Crown Uptown Professional Dinner Theatre, at Douglas and Hillside, is closing after Sunday night's performance of "Disney's High School Musical."

The run of the show, which opened only a week ago, will be cut short. The final show of the season, a comedy called "Love, Sex and the IRS," will be canceled.

1. Wow! I didn't think those things still existed
The last one I saw was in Mass. in the 70s.

Still, it's sad to see yet another civilized item succumb to financial and cultural poverty.

8. Not too many strip clubs closing around here
If people want it they'll pay for it, regardless.

10. I was saying it's not likely the economy
I think all dinner theaters perpetually struggle, good economy or bad. I've been to a couple and realized that they are more for the actors than the audience. I guess if you really love dinner theater it's nice, but it's truly a niche market. They come and go like feral cats.
