How Slow Are Truck Sales in Dexter, Missouri? How Long Does it Take an Egg to Hatch?

A month ago a robin began building a nest in the wheel-well of a used 2005 Chevy pickup that sits in an auto lot in Dexter. A few days later and employees at the dealership noticed eggs in the nest.

Last week the eggs hatched and the nest is full of five baby robins. It will take several more weeks before the fledglings leave the nest.

Until then, the dealership has taken the 2005 Chevrolet off the market.

1. As an old ex-Missourian...
this story does highlight the good that is in most of those stalwart citizens of the Midwest, though it still doesn't make up for their execrable politics.

2. Great pic!
I had a robin build a nest in one of my hanging flower baskets. It was fun watching her take care of her babies. They've gone to a new home.

3. I thought I had wrens nesting in one of my petunia baskets. It turns out that
there is no nest. They just show up when it starts getting dark and roost in there for the night. It makes sense. They are under the eave of the porch, so they stay dry, and it would be very hard for predators to reach them.
